During the annual general meeting of Shenzhen Plastics & Rubber Association and IMM committee meeting of Guangdong Plastics Industry Association (GDPIA), Fu An, President of GPIA, has joined Tiffany Zhu, reporter from AdsaleCPRJ.com, in an exclusive interview. According to Fu, Guangdong’s production volume in plastic products has reached a historical high. Annual production exceeds 10 million tons
Under the estimation made by Fu, Guangdong’s plastic products production was likely to reach the unprecedented 10 million tons in 2009. In November 2009 the accumulative production volume has already reached the 9.3 million level and given the evidences that the monthly volumes since July had maintained at least 1 million tons, it is estimated the yearly production volume in 2009 will climb to a new height. This will make Guangdong the first province in China to reach the 10 million tons mark in plastics production.
Sources from the National Bureau of Statistics of China (from January to November 2009) indicate the accumulative volume for plastic products production top 40.25 million tons, up 9.62% year on year. Guangdong maintained the leading position with 9.278 million (839 million tons for the whole 2008) which accounted for 23.05% of the national production. Zhejiang, Shandong, Jiangsu and Liaoning were ranked second to fifth, with production volume amounted to 7.3 million (18.14%), 3.978 million (9.88%), 3.66 million (9.09%) and 2.547 million (6.33%).
Among all major categories (10) of plastic products, Guangdong leads all other provinces in five categories. They are respectively "daily article" (owning 34.08% of national production), "plastic pipe and component" (17.21%), "plastic sheet / profile" (20.82%), "plastic packaging and container" (16.71%) and "others” (39.95%). For foam plastics production, Guangdong lost to Jiangsu by a very small margin (30,000 tons).
Guangdong, according to Fu, has sustained continuous growth thanks to its strong industrial base. The province, where 21% of the country's larger scale enterprises (annual sales exceeding RMB5 millions) are based, has always been leading all other provinces in plastic products production volume since 1994. In addition, the province is the largest consumer of plastics in China, which plastics consumption per capita level is already comparable to the developed countries.
The restructure of Guangdong’d plastics product industry since 2005 has also contributed to the province’s success. With industry upgrade and more attentions paid on the production of high-end plastics, the crisis in many application industries were less felt by the plastics enterprises. In addition, many Guangdong plastic products enterprises have formed clusters, which provides stronger internal support against business risks.
|According to the latest data received, the accumulative volume for plastic products production for 2009 top 44.79 million tons. The total volume for plastic products production for 2009 of Guangdong province is 10.52 million tons with a monthly figure 1.24 million tons for December. |
