The 25th International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries (CHINAPLAS 2011) came to a successful end on May 20, 2011 at the China Import & Export Fair Pazhou Complex, Guangzhou, China, with a total of 94,084 visitors flocking to the show, which represented an increase of 15.5% compared to last year's show. Of all visitors, 20.27% came from overseas.
"The strong growth of visitor numbers demonstrates the sign of economic recovery. Many enterprises are aware of the needs to upgrade their production lines in order to enhance their competitiveness and capture the growing market after the financial crisis. Other enterprises spare no effort to align with the green policies highlighted in the 12th Five-Year Plan, such as energy saving, low carbon, etc," said Ada Leung, Assistant General Manager of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, Organizer of CHINAPLAS.
Ms Leung added, "The long-standing reputation of CHINAPLAS and the gigantic scale of this year's event contributed to the endless flow of visitors. Backing up by a vast variety of quality exhibits, advanced green technologies and a comprehensive series of concurrent activities, the show undoubtedly appealed to targeted visitors and buyers from all around the world."
2,441 exhibitors came from 34 countries and regions displayed over 1,900 sets of machines and a variety of chemicals and raw materials, satisfying the sourcing needs of buyers from different sectors. | Recognized as world's No. 2 plastics and rubber show
Stanley Chu, Chairman of Adsale, announced at the opening ceremony on May 17 that with its ever-increasing scale and far reaching impact, CHINAPLAS is now the world's No.2 plastics and rubber show, trailing only the K fair in Germany. This year, 2,441 exhibitors from 34 countries and regions with 11 pavilions from Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, Turkey, the UK and the US pushed the exhibition area to the new high of 180,000sq m. Particularly, Turkey was the first time to organize a country pavilion in CHINAPLAS and they have expressed interest in expanding their pavilion's area in 2012.
Over 1,900 sets of machines and a variety of chemicals and raw materials were displayed at the fairground. Among the newly launched exhibits included Krauss Maffei's new ZE 30 UTX twin-screw extruder; BASF's new applications in solar energy and agricultural industries, plus a new light stabilizer tailored for the Asian market; and KIEFEL's new IV-Express Infusion Bag Machine. Besides, Croda Coatings & Polymers launched its broad ranges of Priplast, Pripol and Priamine bio-based building blocks for plastics, elastomers and foams. ISRA Vision unveiled its plastic film inspection equipment, and PolyOne introduced its OnColor HC Plus, a new line of USP Class VI colorants for the healthcare industry in Asia.
Furthermore, the newly launched "Bio-Plastics & Degradable Plastics Zone" and "Rubber Machinery & Equipment Zone" offered comprehensive platforms for visitors to obtain the latest market information, acquire all-round solutions and seek for cooperation partners.
Feedbacks of some buyers from application industries:
Ronaldo Cerri, Director of RONE Ind from Brazil: "As the first time to visit CHINAPLAS, I am surprised and impressed by the high quality and cost effective crusher machines displayed at the show. I foresee a better show in 2012 and would visit again."
Lawrence Yong, Managing Director of Monier from Malaysia: "I visited CHINAPLAS for five times. This year, I need to source machines and raw materials from plastics manufacturing companies. I have already found some suitable suppliers, like Davis Standard, Malex plastics and EDI, etc. CHINAPLAS is a good show with many relevant exhibitors here. I will visit next show in Shanghai."
Gao Shikang, Senior Engineer, Purchasing Center of MD Group of Midea: "Our company is interested in bulk raw materials and engineer plastic materials, like PP/ABS/POM/NYLON. Through CHINAPLAS, we know more about the recent development of plastics, rubber and processing machines and saw many new products of raw material suppliers, which helped in sourcing."
Feedbacks of some exhibitors:
Chris Case, VP Sales of Reduction Engineering: "CHINAPLAS provides the opportunities for us to display new machines, which allow us to not only meet the old clients, but also find new customers every year. That is the reason why we have continually exhibited at CHINAPLAS since 1994."
Gabriele Foschini, Area Manager, IPM Engineering: "As an Italy extrusion pipes manufacturer, CHINAPLAS, for its international influence, was a good window for us to gain contacts of buyers from different countries, such as Russia, Canada and Asia, etc. We had obtained a lot of contacts this year."
Peggy Sung, Communications Manger, Asia Pacific of Styron: "CHINAPLAS helps us to gather many existing clients. We met our old friends, key clients and VIPs at the show and held a series of media and marketing activities along with CHINAPLAS like seminar, gala dinner and media reception. CHINAPLAS gives us a good platform for brand building and enhancing relationship with customers." | High visitor participation brings huge business opportunities
CHINAPLAS has been characterized with its strong participation of overseas buyers and the 2011 edition was without exception. This year, 20.27% of visitors, or 19,069 to be exact, came from 138 overseas countries and regions. The majority of them came from Asia (excluding Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan), which accounted for 47% of the total. Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan had 20.7% visitors, followed by the Middle East (10.8%), Europe (8.5%), America (6.68%), Africa (4.72%) and Oceania (1.6%). It was recorded that Hong Kong, India, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Iran, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam are the top 10 origins of visitors.
The show saw strong presence of overseas delegation groups organized by the Malaysian Plastics Manufacturers Association, All India Plastics Manufacturers Association, Vietnam Plastics Association, and so on, as well as business groups from Iran, Indonesia, India, Brazil, Korea, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, and so on. The majority of overseas buyers were particularly impressed by the presence of both Chinese and foreign machines and technology which is unmatched by other local or international shows.
The quality professional buyers discussed the cooperation and exchange the latest technological trend and market information with the exhibitors onsite. |
Nearly 80% of the visitors were local visitors. The majority were from Southern China (29.05%), followed by Eastern China (22.83%), Guangzhou (17.13%), Northern and Northeastern China (6.51%), and Central, Southwestern and Northwestern China (4.21%). 60 groups were formed by associations and top-notch enterprises, including BYD, Changhong, Dongguan Wire & Cable Association, Foxconn, GREE, Guangdong Automobile Industry Association, Medical Plastic Professional Committee of China Plastic Processing Industrial Association Council, Midea, Shenzhen Electronics Industries Association, Shenzhen Toys Industry Association, Southern Packaging, and Shunde Home Appliance Chamber of Commerce.
With an enormous numbers of visitors, exhibitors were able to achieve their goals of participation, such as exploring new market, establishing new business contacts, meeting existing clients, promoting brand image, and introducing new products.
Staying close to the trend of going green
Highlighting the show's theme of "Green Plastics. Our Goal. Our Future" was a series of concurrent events that received overwhelming responses. To arouse the awareness of the community towards the concepts of recycling and reuse, the "Beating Record by Recycling Bottles" Kick-off Ceremony, in which the "Alive Bottles Tree" made by 3,528 recycled plastic bottles were held in an attempt to break the Guinness World Records. The installation of the "Alive Bottles Tree" was witnessed by thousands of VIPs, visitors, exhibitors and media.
What's more, the two-day "Eco-friendly Plastics Conference" held on May 18-19 was over-registered with a long waiting list. With famous speakers invited to deliver speeches, the conference's three major topics on bio-plastics and degradable plastics, plastics recycling technology and energy-saving plastic technology grabbed the attention of the participants.
As 2011 is a momentous year for CHINAPLAS, the organizer and its co-organizers, sponsors, overseas and local supporters and media, loyal exhibitors and buyers gathered at a banquet to celebrate its 25th Edition and share its milestones and developments over the 24 editions on the first show day. Mr Chu said, "Over the past 28 years, our team has worked hard to establish CHINAPLAS as one of the world's most prominent trade fairs in the plastics and rubber industries. We expressed our gratitude to our partners, exhibitors and visitors who went through many ups and downs with us. While looking back to these memorable moments, at the same time, we will continue to strive for excellence and provide more value to our exhibitors and visitors."
Before and during CHINAPLAS 2011, over 40 technical seminars and conferences were held to provide an effective platform for in-depth technological exchange and discussion to different groups of end users.
Next edition to be held in April 2011 in Shanghai
The next edition of CHINAPLAS will be held at Shanghai New International Expo Center, China on April 18-21, 2012. The organizer is confident that CHINAPLAS 2012 will further expand to an exhibition area of 200,000sq m and attract over 2,600 exhibitors.
