CHINAPLAS 2010 (The 24th International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries) will be staged from April 19 to 22 in Shanghai's New International Expo Centre. To unveil in advance the exhibitors' latest activities during CHINAPLAS 2010, Giorgio Santella, Piovan Global Marketing Director and Marco Mammano, Piovan China Managing Director, talked to CPRJ (China Plastic & Rubber Journal) and AdsaleCPRJ.com.
CPRJ:CPRJ & AdsaleCPRJ.com reporter Giorgio: Giorgio Santella, Piovan Global Marketing Director Marco: Marco Mammano, Piovan China Managing Director
CPRJ:What technologies will be displayed in CHINAPLAS 2010? What are the main features?
Giorgio:Piovan supplies technologies for all applications in injection molding and extrusion. The display at CHINAPLAS (stand E2E41) will focus on resin drying, material conveying and blending, mold temperature controller devices and chiller water systems. All equipment will be functional and accessible to visitors in greater deal.
CPRJ:The theme "Green Plastics . Our Goal . Our Future" will take center stage in CHINAPLAS 2010. Will your company introduce related products or events based on this theme?
Giorgio:Sustainability, energy efficiency, optimized performance and reliability are the main characteristics of the equipment that Piovan produces. A high level of engineering and equipment integration completes the offer, to achieve the objective of utmost stability of production and control.
Piovan will launch Genesys, the new and innovative technology for PET drying, the only AUTO-ADAPTIVE system available today. Along with an impressive display, Piovan will introduce Genesys in a technical conference arranged on April 20 (second day of the exhibition)
CPRJ:What are the domestic and overseas sales in 2009 for your company?
Marco:2009 ended with a considerable growth for Piovan in the territory of China. Domestic sales represent almost 10% of the global turnover of the Piovan Group.
CPRJ:What are the new strategies adopted by your company that react to the changes caused by the economic crisis (in different regions and application industries)?
Marco:We are taking the opportunity of the "up and down" of the global economy to invest in research & development and to consolidate our financial structure, in such a way that we can look at the future with optimism. We are organized with a world wide direct presence of branches and production plants, and we are making more efforts in those markets which are less affected by the global financial crisis such as Asia and South America, where the possibilities of growth are still very high compared to other more mature markets.
In China, despite the crisis and a decrease of market demand, the year 2009 was very good for Piovan, thanks to our improved sales network, to our new factory in Suzhou and to our new products made in China.
CPRJ: What are the goals and project works set by your company in 2010? Marco:Currently we are increasing the range of our products manufactured in China because the direct presence, with more and more local products, is a strong signal for our Customers and for the industry in general about our strategy of growth in this market.
We are keeping Italian know-how by transferring it to our local technical department so that the "heart" is Italian but adapted to local needs. We are also selecting best brands components produced locally so we can avoid to import from Italy having same quality as in Europe.
In particular, in 2010 we will complete our program of localization of all the auxiliaries for the PET preform business and we’ll start the local production of blenders.
CPRJ:How do you observe the new development trend in 2010?
Marco:The first months of the new year were very good for Piovan China.
Many new investments are expected from diverse industry sectors, like automotive, packaging and construction. Our outlook is also extremely positive for the PET, thanks to our new products that represent the "state of the art" in terms of energy consumptions, and the extrusion industry (blow films and pipes), thanks to our new dosing units lines made in China.
We also see chances to grow through the cooperation with the Chinese OEMs.
(Note: With CHINAPLAS 2010 approaching, official media CPRJ, CPRJ International and AdsaleCPRJ.com are extending coverage by conducting interviews with exhibitors.)
