Piovan, an Italian auxiliary equipment supplier for plastics processing, is deeply rooted in China. Paolo Maguolo, General Manager of Piovan China, spoke to China Plastic & Rubber Journal and AdsaleCPRJ.com on the company's recent development in China and its expectations on CHINAPLAS 2011.
CPRJ: China Plastic & Rubber Journal and AdsaleCPRJ.com Mr Maguolo: Paolo Maguolo, General Manager of Piovan China
CPRJ: How do you see the Chinese market develop?
Mr Maguolo: China is the largest market in Asia and Asia is the world's largest market by continent. Now China owns approximately 50,000 injection molding machines [note: Piovan's products mainly serve the injection molding machine market]. We hope this figure will maintain in the near future, while more advanced models will take up a larger and larger share.
CPRJ: What would be the next user industries that have the greatest potential?
Mr Maguolo: We think that automotive and medical industries are the user markets of the greatest potential in China. More technology applications are necessary so that the output volume can be increased and the product quality can be further improved.
CPRJ: What would be the future of energy-saving machinery?
Mr Maguolo: The Chinese efforts to develop energy-saving technologies have accelerated in recent years as the government recognized energy as a strategic sector.
In these decades, we have seen a growing awareness of environmental issues in China.
Piovan as a company is committed to developing energy-saving solutions since ever. Among our latest product innovations, we are particularly proud of the Genesys drying systems, whose energy consumption has been validated by TÜV, the German safety monitoring agency.
CPRJ: Based on Piovan's past participations in CHINAPLAS, in what ways the exhibition are helping Piovan in market promotion? Why is it important to participate in CHINAPLAS?
Mr Maguolo: CHINAPLAS is now the second most important exhibition on plastic market after K show and China is becoming the first producer of plastic and relevant equipment in the world. But we must consider that this exhibition occurs every year so it is the biggest possibility to show news and have contact with new customers.
By looking at the figures, China has a potential market of final users which is double more than Europe and America together and its economy is growing faster and faster. China is not anymore only a manufacturing country but a source of most advanced technology and plastic is evolving here more than in other continents.
We expect that the importance of CHINAPLAS increases more and more in coming years. The Shanghai's edition has a more international appeal in comparison to that in Guangzhou, but in any case CHINAPLAS is an appointment you cannot miss!
CPRJ: Piovan has been a loyal supporter of CHINAPLAS. In what ways has the exhibition improved?
Mr Maguolo: We can say that for sure the exhibition has improved in terms of organization and internationalization level.
CPRJ: Can you share with us your memories concerning Piovan's participation in CHINAPLAS?
Mr Maguolo: My first CHINAPLAS was only two years ago, in 2009, and at that time I have been in China for only three months. I was used to the European exhibitions where everything is already organized and perfect the day before opening. But in the evening before the exhibition [CHINAPLAS 2009] opened, everything was still not ready and I was very worried for the opening the day after. Therefore I could see the ability and the great flexibility of the Chinese people. Everybody worked hard and the day after our stand was perfect and shining! At that time I understood that in China everything is possible!
CPRJ: What expectations do you have on CHINAPLAS 2011?
Mr Maguolo: Last year in Shanghai our CHINAPLAS was a success because we introduced a lot of new equipment mainly addressed to the packaging industry, the PET business in particular, where we have achieved great results in China. This year in Guangzhou we will be more focused on the new products we are now developing in the Suzhou plant, besides some novelties introduced at the K show. We have huge expectations on this exhibition too, aiming to consolidate more and more of our presence in the local market.
CPRJ: Can we have your blessing on CHINAPLAS 2011, which passes the 25th landmark this year?
Mr Maguolo: As I said before I attended only two editions of the CHINAPLAS in the past, so I would like to wish to this important exhibition and to myself too, another 25 years of success!
