With its new "i" packaging system under the "stretch hood" series, Beumer, an intralogistics system manufacturer based in Beckum, Germany, is introducing a new generation of packaging system at CHINAPLAS 2011.
As a revamp of the company's former stretch hood high-performance packaging machine, the new generation aims at consuming less energy, requiring less space and ensuring more efficient processes.
This latest technology generation comprises a "one-for-all" maintenance concept to make maintenance easier. An intuitive interface between man and machine simplifies operation and allows rapid film change. It also enables operating parameters to be changed. And the better use of space means that it requires 30% less room. This packaging system retains the accustomed precision and quality of the stretch hood generations S and M - but with an improved price/performance ratio.
The manufacturer said it put great emphasis on sustainability when developing the "stretch hood i". By comparison, the stretch hood series S and M can work with a minimum film thickness of 60µm, but new series is capable of handling films with a thickness of 40µm. That significantly lowers the consumption costs and also reduces the environmental impact.
Furthermore, it proved possible to reduce energy consumption by 12.5% and compressed air consumption by 53% compared with the two other versions.
The installation area of the new system is more than 5m2 smaller than for Generation S and 8m2 than for the model M; while 8% lower in height for the former generation, hence allows users to make better use of their production area and leads to lower investment costs, the company says.
The processing range of stretch hood i can handle pallet at size from maximum 1,320x1,320mm, to the smallest at 500x500mm. The positioning accuracy was also increased. And, reefing frame can be lowered closer to the stack to protect the film, as disturbing contours are eliminated.
Time needed for a film format change has been cut from 15 to 8 minutes, and a film with the same format can even be changed in two minutes. Optionally, an automatic film change is possible. A central setting point on the machine allowed enhancement in the film running characteristics.
