Vimal Plastics, a producer of extrusion blow molded (EBM) containers in India, selected Eastman Chemical Company's Drystar 0603 copolyester for its cosmetic product line.
Vimal uses Drystar, a glycol-modified PET (PETG), in transparent and tinted EBM bottles from 50-200mL, especially for the high-end products of regional and multi-national brands including Shahnaz Ayurvedics, Jiva Ayurveda, Lotus Herbals and Torrent Pharmaceuticals.
For these customers, it is critical to differentiate their brands in the marketplace. Using Drystar 0603, Vimal can custom design and extrusion blow mold a run of as few as 5,000 units. That simply doesn't justify the investment in a new ISBM mold.
Before using Drystar, the only options for Vimal were injection stretch blow molding (ISBM) PET or EBM using high density polyethylene (HDPE). Both fell short of customer needs because the mold costs for ISBM were very high and HDPE offerings were primarily limited to opaque.
Drystar 0603 overcomes both of these shortcomings – with design and processing flexibility, high clarity and a glasslike finish for its cosmetic product line, according to Eastman.
"Eastman Drystar copolyesters offer immense design flexibility coupled with optimum clarity and performance that no other polymer can offer," said Vimal Fiaolke, Chairman, Vimal Plastics. "In India, we find PETG penetration is still at its threshold in India and this region has very high future potential for growth."
