Leading plastics technology show, CHINAPLAS, steps into its 25th edition, with more weight on environmentally friendly products and production processes. Continuing with the theme of last year's show, CHINAPLAS 2011 in Guangzhou will kick off with a stronger tone on green technologies and recyclable plastics.
CHINAPLAS 2011 is to play host to more than 2,200 exhibitors and about 80,000 visitors on an exhibition site of 180,000 square metres inside the China Import & Export Fair Pazhou Complex from May 17 to 20.
Ada Leung, Assistant General Manager - Sales & Marketing, of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., organiser of CHINAPLAS, tells CPRJ International about the features of this special edition of CHINAPLAS, a unique show that has been growing with the industry since 1983.
What are the main characteristics of CHINAPLAS 2011?
This year is the 25th CHINAPLAS, the jubilee edition of the show. The show scale is the largest ever, with the total exhibition area reaching 180.000 sqm, which is about 30% increase compared with the last Guangzhou edition in 2009,and 20% increase compared with the last Shanghai edition in 2010.
There are 11 country/region pavilions, including those of Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, China, Taiwan, Turkey, the UK and the USA. Among them, Turkey is for the first time to organize their pavilion to CHINAPLAS.
There are a total of 11 theme zones, including two new zones - the Bioplastics & Degradable Plastics Zone and the Rubber Machinery & Equipment Zone. We will be using 21 exhibition halls of the CIEF Pazhou Complex, six more exhibition halls compared with the last CHINAPLAS in Guangzhou in 2009.
The theme of "Green Plastics. Our Goal. Our Future" continues in CHINAPLAS 2011. Under this theme, we will organize the "Eco-friendly Plastics Conference" and concurrent event of "Beating Record by Recycling Bottles". The aim of these activities is to further promote the importance of going green in the industry. High-level conferences and more than 40 sessions of technical seminar will be held prior to and during the show.
What are the differences between holding CHINAPLAS in Guangzhou and in Shanghai?
For the Guangzhou shows, there tend to be more participants from Southern China, no matter they are exhibitors or visitors. While in Shanghai, there are more participants from Eastern China.
In terms of show content, scope of exhibits, and international participation, there is no difference between Guangzhou and Shanghai CHINAPLAS. In fact, CHINAPLAS has been growing steadily with the thriving economy and the strong industrial development in China.
What does the 25th edition of CHINAPLAS mean to you / the organiser and to the industry?
CHINAPLAS has grown alongside China's plastics and rubber industries. The fair has overcome many, different challenges in its development. It has accompanied, witnessed and at the same time contributed to the growth of the industries, being a highly effective platform for international trade promotion and technological exchange.
We are happy that CHINAPLAS is now recognised by the industry as among the top three plastics and rubber tradeshows in the world. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the show co-organisers and the trade associations in China and overseas, which have been supporting CHINAPLAS for a long time. And most important of all, our gratitude to the exhibitors and visitors, who participated in our shows and directly contributed to our past successes.
With the growing importance of China in the world market, we believe the influence of CHINAPLAS will continue to rise.
What are the effects after the environmental theme was adopted for the first time last year?
The Green Forum and the Green Corner held in CHINAPLAS 2010 in Shanghai have successfully raised the awareness of environmental protection, energy-saving and resources conservation in China's plastics and rubber industries. The trend of low carbon and energy efficiency was promoted not just to the plastics and rubber industries, but also to the user industries of automotive, packaging, building & construction, E&E, IT and telecommunication through the conference. We have received very good response from the participants and most of the conference sessions recorded full attendance.
This year, we will organise the "Eco-friendly Plastics Conference" on May 18 & 19. There will be three main areas of discussion, namely bioplastics & degradable plastics, plastics recycling technology and energy saving plastics technology.
We will also make use of over 3,000 used plastic bottles to make a special art installation at CHINAPLAS 2011. It is designed by Wing Lee, a famous Hong Kong designer, and the message to be conveyed is closely in line with our green theme. We are hoping to set a Guinness World Record with this activity.
