2017 is a special year for Arburg: the German injection molding powerhouse celebrates its 25th anniversary in China.

Entering Greater China market in 1992, Arburg has been part of a burgeoning Chinese plastics industry in the past 25 years, offering top-notch injection molding technology for Chinese processors.

“Providing comprehensive services and technologies to customers is the reason why we now have a lot of loyal customers who appreciate our services. We are very proud to be able to grow with them and to help them grow further,” said Tong Zhao, Managing Director of the Arburg organizations in China.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary in China, Arburg will host two events at its Shanghai and Shenzhen locations. “A specific service in packaging will also be offered from July 1 for all machines sold in China,” Tong added.

Positive feedback for Golden Electric

At CHINAPLAS 2017, Arburg is showing high-end applications with all-electric Allrounder Golden Electric and hydraulic Allrounder Golden Edition machines. The Freeformer and its technical developments are also presented.

The Golden Electric machines were launched in March 2016. The good price/performance ratio is made possible through consistent standardization, e.g. a fixed combination of distance between tie-bars, clamping force and injection unit size.

“The feedback for the Golden Electric machines was good in general. We are expecting significant growth in 2017 related to this machine series,” Tong said.

“Because of the high performance and the attractive price, the electric machines bring optimum results for the automotive, electronics and medical industry,” Tong said, “which happened to be the three major markets for Arburg in 2016”.

Arburg’s business has been growing significantly in recent years. Tong noted contribution of the Chinese market to the group’s results is also growing year by year.

“Our business has been growing for years. We think the trends of production and products in China moving into the high-end will continue in the next decade,” he said.

“Trendsetter in Industry 4.0”

In the talks of high-end production, Industry 4.0 is a crucial topic addressed by many of the leading countries in manufacturing, such as Germany, the US and Japan. China’s “Made in China 2025” strategic plan also aims to accelerate the development of smart manufacturing.

Arburg is a “trendsetter” when it comes to Industry 4.0, Tong emphasized, with 30 years of experience in digitally networked production, both for the plastics processing industry and in its own production.

With the automated Allrounder injection molding machines, the Freeformer for additive manufacturing and IT solutions such as the ALS host computer system, Arburg is evolving into a system supplier for networked production in the digital factory, said Tong.

Dedicated automation team in China

The preconditions for “Made in China 2025” are automation and IT infrastructure. Tong said Arburg has a dedicated automation team in China to work with customers closely towards Industry 4.0 and “Made in China 2025”.

Apart from technology advancement, Tong is looking for more locally based partners in China. “We would like to go even deeper into customers’ branches to better help them with more tailor-made services and technologies. Moreover, we will continue to strengthen our sales and service points in China and enlarge our sales channels,” Tong explained.

More and more Chinese companies are seeking high-end injection molding machines and solutions to improve their production efficiency and product quality, he said. “The huge Chinese market offers a plentitude of industries and niches. I am very confident that Arburg will take advantage of the large potential and will further extend its position in China,” Tong commented.

We think the trends of production and products in China moving into the high-end will continue in the next decade.
