CHINAPLAS 2017, the foremost plastics and rubber trade fair in Asia, grandly opens today at the China Import and Export Fair Complex located in Pazhou, Guangzhou city. The annual trade fair in China puts emphasis on meeting end-users’ needs and has adopted the theme of “Greenovation for a Smart Future” this year, focusing on “Intelligent Manufacturing, High-tech Materials and Green Solutions” for key applications.

Bigger scale with high-tech showcase

CHINAPLAS 2017 features more than 3,400 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions around the world, occupying a total exhibition area of 250,000 sqm.

Among the exhibitors, about 40% have joined from outside of China, while about 15% are participating for the first time. There are 13 international pavilions, of which the Iran pavilion makes its debut at CHINAPLAS this year.

According to the organizer, Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., it is expected that more than 140,000 plastics industry professionals from about 160 countries and regions will be visiting the show. Besides, more than 150 buyer delegations are arriving for business negotiations and sourcing.

CHINAPLAS has grown bigger in scale since the last Guangzhou edition in 2015, which had an exhibition area of 240,000 sqm.

Commenting on the steady growth of CHINAPLAS, Ada Leung, General Manager of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., said the development has been in line with the Chinese market situation.

“Although China has entered the ‘new normal’ state of economic development, the market is still growing. Particularly, the application sectors of medical and automotive have shown eye-catching performances. These offer growth potential for the plastics and rubber industries,” Ms Leung explained.

She said CHINAPLAS aims to further lift its quality in the long run. “Since the Chinese plastics and rubber industries are undergoing deep reform, CHINAPLAS will focus and emphasize on showcasing new high-tech exhibits in the future so as to facilitate the industry’s transformation.”

Industry 4.0 is the megatrend in China

To facilitate the transformation and upgrade, the Chinese plastics and rubber industries are determined to seize the megatrend Industry 4.0 which sets out to reshape the industrial landscape on a national and global scale. Thus, CHINAPLAS 2017 underlines Industry 4.0 as one of the show’s main themes.

Besides plenty of smart manufacturing equipment displayed, the concurrent event - the 2nd Industry 4.0 Conference, with the support from the Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association within VDMA (German Engineering Federation), sheds lights on the latest developments of Industry 4.0.

To emphasize the importance of Industry 4.0 to the Chinese enterprises, VDMA also cooperated with PLAS.TV to produce video interviews with KraussMaffei, Wittmann Battenfeld, Engel, Arburg and Reifenh?user. The five leading suppliers shared inspirations on Industry 4.0 and Chinese market as they introduced their participation in CHINAPLAS 2017.

The must-see “Smart Manufacturing Technology Zone”

Intelligent manufacturing is one of the dominant themes of CHINAPLAS 2017. Following the success of the “Automation Technology Zone” in the past two editions, the zone has been renamed “Smart Manufacturing Technology Zone” with a more magnificent exhibitor line-up and a bigger exhibition area.

The zone displays a full spectrum of smart technologies and products, including robotic arms, automated systems, controllers, actuators and sensors. Stand-alone machines, entire production lines are being exhibited as well.

In addition, Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) has gathered a group of companies from Taiwan to exhibit at the zone for the first time.

One of the highlights of the zone is 3D technology, which is dedicated to the emerging 3D printing technology. Exhibitors display a number of latest 3D printers, 3D scanners, 3D printing software and 3D printing services.

“Recycling Technology Zone” presents more exhibitors

With positive feedback on its debut in the last Shanghai edition of CHINAPLAS, the “Recycling Technology Zone” continues to present to visitors an abundant selection of solutions across the recycling chain, such as sorting, shredding, cleaning, dewatering, drying and pelletizing, etc.

The organizer revealed that the number of exhibitors in the “Recycling Technology Zone” is higher than that of last year, while a lot of exhibitors are presenting for the first time.

Meanwhile, CHINAPLAS 2017 brings together the leading global plastic material suppliers in the “Chemicals and Raw Materials Zone” , “Composite & High Performance Materials Zone” and “Bioplastics Zone” , which present the world’s innovative materials.

All the high-tech materials feature improved and strengthened properties and can sufficiently meet the diversified demands of downstream applications.

CHINAPLAS this year comprises 16 theme zones. Apart from the aforementioned, there are also the Additives Zone, Auxiliary & Testing Equipment Zone, Chinese Export Machinery & Materials Hall, Colour Pigment and Masterbatch Zone, Die & Mould Zone, Extrusion Machinery Zone, Film Technology Zone, Injection Molding Machinery Zone, Plastic Packaging Machinery Zone, Rubber Machinery Zone, Semi-Finished Products Zone.

Medical plastics’ potential untapped

The medical sector is a huge potential market which is growing at double-digit rates. Thanks to advanced technology, plastics are being increasingly applied in medical devices, disposable supplies and pharmaceutical packaging. However, medical plastics also face higher user requirements and stringent safety regulations.

Many of the key suppliers of healthcare materials such as silicone rubber, bio-safe resins, and new polymers that offer outstanding properties and safety are on show, reflecting the rapid development of medical sector.

In view of the market trend, CHINAPLAS is holding the 3rd Medical Plastics Conference to share the latest technology of medical plastics and explore more innovative applications in the medical sector.

Green packaging under spotlight

Sustainability is the key driver of development in the packaging sector. Lightweight, thin, multilayer, high-barrier films, degradable materials, and innovative package designs are adopted to extend food shelf life, increase productivity and promote recycling.

In view of this, exhibitors at CHINAPLAS 2017 display different advanced materials for the packaging sector, as well as high-end injection molding and extrusion machinery, and automation equipment for efficient and sustainable production.

For E&E sector, engineering plastics are becoming the material of choice by offering higher mechanical strength, better temperature resistance and insulating properties. Visitors can find a full range of such multifunctional polymers on display.

High-tech automotive materials draw attention

Lightweight continues to be the megatrend in the automotive sector which is increasingly incorporating engineering plastics that offer key properties and performance benefits, such as low density, good melt flow rate, heat resistance and excellent noise dampening.

Materials with molded-in color, glass and carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics, as well as low-VOC resins have all become hot topics in the sector.

At CHINAPLAS 2017, visitors can get the first glimpse of a wealth of excellent new materials that contribute significantly to the development of the sector.
