The Wittmann Group is able to build on the favorable momentum last year with a sales increase of 8% in 2017 to €405 million.

Incoming order is still at a very high level, with especially strong demand for its EcoPower all-electric injection molding machines this year, according to General Manager, Michael Wittmann. Sales of automation and peripheral equipment is also growing in all areas, he said.

As a result, the company is target sales of €440-450 million for 2018.

The European market is mostly positive, he said, with growth in Poland, Spain and France. In Eastern Europe, growth was achieved also in Czech Republic and Slovakia, while Russia is also returning.

In May, the Wittmann Group announced a €15 million investment to expand capacities at its injection molding machine manufacturing facility in Kottingbrunn, Austria.

The extension of the north and south part of the production plant will be finished by December, while the expansion of the office building is expected to conclude in 2018 Spring.

At Fakuma 2017, Wittmann Battenfeld announced the sales launch of its new EcoPower Xpress series. It is now available in the clamping force sizes of 400-ton and 500-ton with injection units in three sizes for injection speeds of up to 600mm/s and injection pressures of up to 2,500 bar. A special feature is its high injection dynamism with up to 1,500mm/s² acceleration.

This new all-electric high speed machine is particularly developed for the packaging industry and for thin-walled applications, replacing the TM Xpress, the high-speed hydraulic toggle lever machine model.

During the show, production of closing caps made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) is demonstrated on an EcoPower Xpress 400/3300+ in a 96-cavity mold supplied by the French company Plastisud. The cycle time is 2.7s.

The caps are cooled with the cap cooler from Austria and then deposited in boxes. The specific energy consumption is at a very low level of 0.39KWh/kg.

The star of Wittmann Group's auxiliary equipment at the show is TEMPRO plus D temperature controller that is equipped with new SpeedDrive and FLOWCON plus functions.

SpeedDrive is now available for pressurized appliances up to 180°C. It consists of a motor speed-controlled pump, which offers users several additional options to make the injection molding process even more efficient. The motor speed or pump pressure, or the differential temperature are additional parameters which can be preset without having to purchase any additional optional equipment for the temperature controller.

The FLOWCON plus allows for the exact control of up to 48 individual zones by means of a maintenance-free flow measurement (vortex ±1.5% of the maximum value in L/min). In the event of deviations, the motor speed of the pump is adjusted via a frequency converter, so that it continues to operate within the set tolerances.
