ExxonMobil was presented with the "Resin Innovation Award" by Chinese Institute of Agricultural Plastics Application Technology – Agricultural Plastics Product Branch (CAFA) at its 30-year anniversary conference held in Jinan City, Shandong, China on November 2.

Introduced for the first time by CAFA, the award recognizes ExxonMobil's continuous efforts to develop new solutions that improve the performance of agricultural films during the past 10 years. These solutions include the introduction of Exceed XP performance polymers in 2016, and Enable performance polymers in 2008.

Accepting the award on behalf of ExxonMobil were David Simpson, Global Polyethylene Products & Applications Development Manager; Lily Ma, North Asia Performance Polyethylene Market Development Manager; and Stella Hu, Asia Pacific Polyolefin Customer Development Technology Manager, ExxonMobil.

"We are truly honored that CAFA has chosen to acknowledge our ongoing efforts to improve the quality of agricultural films by presenting ExxonMobil with this prestigious Resin Innovation Award. Our aim is to help customers create innovative agricultural films that deliver higher crop yields to feed the world's rapidly growing population, while providing better financial returns for farmers," said Simpson.

"Through close engagement with the Chinese agricultural film value chain, ExxonMobil continues to invest in product innovation combined with a timely response to market needs," said Zhang Zhenhe, President & Chief Scientist, Chinese Institute of Agricultural Plastics Application Technology.

"Enable is now recognized as a benchmark product in the industry, with an excellent balance of strong mechanical properties and easy processability. And, Exceed XP provides opportunities to raise agricultural film performance to new levels," added Madam Qin Li Jie, Chairperson & Chief Technology Director, CAFA. "Following close collaboration between ExxonMobil and CAFA, it is fully qualified through comprehensive on-line trials, laboratory tests and field cladding validation."

Exceed XP allows the fabrication of damage-resistant large lay-flat films for greenhouse and walk-in tunnel cover solutions, and thin agricultural mulch and silage films. These tough films exhibit outstanding mechanical properties and aged property retention that delivers long lasting, durable solutions.

Film formulations can be easily tailored for seasonal requirements and all climate conditions. With a broad operating window on a variety of extrusion equipment configurations, Exceed XP can withstand fluctuating manufacturing conditions, while ease of processing promotes greater bubble stability for stable, worry-free operations with opportunities for high output.

Enable performance polymers deliver the optimal combination of film processing and higher alpha olefin (HAO) performance benefits in a single, unique resin to meet the large lay-flat film requirements of the greenhouse film market.

Using Enable in both ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) resin-based and non-EVA resin greenhouse films, converters can expect downgauging opportunities of up to 20% that result in raw material savings, lower film inventory, reduced transportation costs and lower unit costs.

Five-layer polyolefin dedicated greenhouse films based on Enable and EVA can extend anti-drip and anti-fog functionality from one to three years, helping to reduce energy consumption for a more sustainable solution.

Enable also delivers optical properties that can increase greenhouse temperatures faster, leading to higher productivity and earlier selling of product.

As well as ExxonMobil, awards were presented to three additive suppliers, one machine manufacturer and a number of individuals. The conference was attended by over 330 representatives from across the Asia Pacific agricultural film value chain.
