Another Chinese automotive brand, BAIC Group, has announced the timetable for phasing out traditional petroleum-based vehicles.

At the inauguration ceremony of BAIC New Energy Vehicle Innovation Center on December 9, the company announced its intention to completely stop selling petroleum-based vehicle by 2025, turning all of its car fleet into electric-based.

Xu Heyi, Chairman of BAIC, said the company will stop selling petroleum cars in Beijing in 2020, while production and sales of petroleum-based vehicles nationwide will stop by 2025.

In the future, BAIC's research will focus on developing all-electric vehicles fleet, autonomous driving, and smart manufacturing technology.

BAIC currently owns the largest all-electric vehicles fleet in China, with more than 10 passenger vehicles under five model series from sedan, SUV to mini cars. Their driving ranges span from 200-400km.

In 2017, BAIC continues to be a leader in the Chinese electric vehicle market, holding a market share of 22.2%. From January to October, the company sold 66,714 electric cars in China.

Changan Automobile was the first automaker in China to roll out plans for stopping petroleum-based vehicle sales back in October.
