Welcome to CHINAPLAS 2018!

For the first time, the show is being held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Hongqiao, Shanghai, PR China. From today until Friday (April 27th), CHINAPLAS 2018, which has an exhibition area exceeding 340,000 square meters - 40% bigger than that of the 2016 edition in Shanghai - brings together 4,000 exhibitors from around the world in a series of meticulously well-organized theme zones.

Focusing on "Smart Manufacturing, Innovative Materials and Green Solutions", CHINAPLAS facilitates the plastics and rubber industries in business transformation and upgrading, leading the industries to a brighter future!

New venture - a good beginning

As a high-tech platform for international professionals in the plastics and rubber industries, CHINAPLAS has been continuously expanding the event's scale and upgrading its quality.

In the meantime, exhibitors and visitors alike have been demanding more and better exhibition services at CHINAPLAS, according to Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., the show's organizer.

"From 2012 onwards, CHINAPLAS has faced the problem of space shortage," according to Adsale's General Manager, Ms. Ada Leung. "Previously, when we held the show at the Shanghai New International Expo Center in Pudong, we had used up all the indoor exhibition halls. We even built outdoor temporary exhibition halls, but still couldn't meet the huge demand from our exhibitors. By moving to the new venue, NECC, Adsale can fulfill the strong demand for exhibition space immediately. This relocation to the new venue is also good for the long-term development of CHINAPLAS," Ms. Leung continued.

The shape of the NECC is like a blooming "four-leaf clover". With a total construction area of 1.47 million square meters, it is the largest single block building and exhibition complex in the world. There are 400,000 square meters of indoor area, which consists of 13 large exhibition halls and three small exhibition halls. There are conference rooms with different specifications and settings among the halls. The central area is a commercial plaza providing abundant catering services.

"CHINAPLAS 2018 will not only accommodate more exhibitors, but will also have better management in the set-up of theme zones, country/region pavilions, and concurrent events. We believe that visitors will have a new, high-quality visiting experience," Ms. Leung said.

New theme zones to enhance visitor convenience

To bring visitors a good and convenient experience, the show organizer has rearranged the overall theme zone layout. Extrusion-related technology is in the eastern part of the NECC, injection molding technology in the west, and blow molding technology in the southern part of the complex.

Exhibits of the same category are near to each other, while different European pavilions, which were scattered in different halls in the past, have all come together in Hall 2H this year.

In response to rising market demands, CHINAPLAS 2018 introduces a "3D Technology Zone" and a "Thermoplastic Elastomers & Rubber Zone".

"3D Technology Zone" groups together the vendors and providers of 3D printing (additive manufacturing) technologies. The new theme zone and the concurrent event "The 3rd Industry 4.0 Conference" complement each other, providing a comprehensive experience for enterprises interested in 3D printing technology and "smart manufacturing".

The "Thermoplastic Elastomers & Rubber Zone" responds to the growing market demands for energy-saving, environmentally friendly and lightweight thermoplastic elastomers, which are widely used in the automotive, electronics and electrical, medical and footwear industries.

Innovation is key to the future

China is rapidly becoming a preeminent new market in the world. With over RMB 1.5 trillion spent in R&D in 2016, a 10.6% annual increase, and of which 77.5% was contributed by businesses, the overall productivity and comprehensive national power of China is strategically being boosted, enhancing the country's influence in technology innovations.

CHINAPLAS addresses the latest needs of many application industries, including automotive, E&E, IT & Telecom, packaging, building and medical, presenting leading and hot solutions from all over the world. The theme of CHINAPLAS 2018 is set as Innovation is Key to the Future, highlighting the roles of technology and innovation.

Smart manufacturing is considered by some to be synonymous with Industry 4.0, the influence of which is now going deep and wide, providing new opportunities for innovation and development for the manufacturing industries.

Industries that are actively upgrading have put "smart manufacturing" under the spotlight. Smart manufacturing solutions, for instance, unmanned automated production, equipment interconnection and visualization, etc., are facing high demands.

Regarding innovative materials, metals and other materials are gradually replaced by high performance materials, which are low in density, strong, moldable, heat resistant, corrosion resistant, antibacterial, UV-resistant etc.Regarding innovative materials, metals and other materials are gradually replaced by high performance materials, which are low in density, strong, moldable, heat resistant, corrosion resistant, antibacterial, UV-resistant etc., creating high value-added products.

Application of engineering plastics and carbon fiber composite materials in the automotive industry incredibly contributes to vehicle lightweighting. Battery cases, a core component of new energy vehicles, made of carbon fiber composite materials, are 80% lighter than their steel counterparts, on top of being corrosion resistant, water proof, flame retardant and long lasting.

New materials also find their applications in the medical sector. Functional materials like polymers with good biocompatibility, new materials for implants, sterilization/gamma ray resistant materials and electro-conductive materials are only a few examples of safe, green and high performance medical grade plastics.

Green solutions answers to prosperity

To go green is to prosper, so the importance of environmental technology innovation is self-evident. Lightweight plastics, multifunctionalities, low VOC emissions, the use of biodegradable plastics and the recovery of recycled materials are among the means by which many industries move towards sustainable development.

Promotion of lightweighting continues to be the major driver for the packaging industry, as not only can it reduce the use of materials, but also effectively reduce the gross weight, facilitating transportation.

Biodegradable materials, as well as centralized collection and recycling of packaging materials, are gaining popularity among many companies.

Moreover, high-performance PVC formwork, large diameter polyolefin drainage, water-based polyurethane, solvent-free eco-synthetic leather, lead-free PVC profiles, as well as the recovery of recycled raw materials, etc., are highlighted for visitors from the building and construction industry.

A glittering hall of the young - Young Tech Hall

To facilitate visitors' need of sourcing new CHINAPLAS suppliers, a "Young Tech Hall" is introduced at CHINAPLAS 2018. This is a comprehensive exhibition hall, which gathers together new exhibitors from diverse fields.

The new hall houses over 400 new exhibitors in an exhibition area of 20,000sqm, presenting additive, colour pigments and masterbatch, semi-finished products, testing equipment, die and molds, extrusion machinery, injection molding machinery, smart manufacturing technology, plastic packaging and film technology.

"Young Tech Hall is introduced to help visitors locate exhibitors and products by further segmentation," explained Ms. Leung. "It's a win-win solution. New CHINAPLAS exhibitors can seize the opportunity to strategically market their brands and new products to Shanghai, while CHINAPLAS itself can draw in new blood, fresh energy, and more advanced technologies."

Apart from the new Young Tech Hall, the mega show has been divided into a total of 18 different theme zones to facilitate successful sourcing of buyers.
