With the corporate philosophy “Passion for innovation”, Windmoeller & Hoelscher (W&H) promoted its “Packaging 4.0” solutions at CHINAPLAS 2018. 

The manufacturer of flexible packaging machinery and equipment brought its new TurboClean technology to the exhibition.

Retrofit blown film lines with TurboClean automated technology

TurboClean automation module, which purges resin from all extruders and gravimetric hoppers simultaneously, decreases dramatically the time required to change out material.

"By using TurboClean on a blown film line, changeovers can take as little as 12 minutes instead of up to 40 minutes,” explained Klaus Meyer, Sales Director of Greater China at Windmoeller & Hoelscher Asia during an interview with CPRJ at the show.

“We try to make every machine more intelligent so that they can perform better and faster.”

TurboClean was only available on new VAREX II systems when it was launched in 2015. Now, existing W&H VAREX II and VAREX I lines built in or after 2010 can be retrofitted with the TurboClean module, allowing film manufacturers to benefit from significant cost savings that result from faster job changes.

Complete packaging solutions as a new edge for W&H

Since the labour cost in China is rising and operators are reluctant to do simple jobs, automation is a good alternative. As stated by Meyer, the company commissioned an automated blow film line to transfer the finished rolls with a robot onto a pelletizer and to pack into cartons automatically, leading to higher production efficiency and lower labour cost.

Ltd was also at the booth. He said that providing complete solutions is one of the advantages of the company.

“Nowadays, customers are not just looking for machines, but also complete solutions. In terms of blown film line, we are at the forefront of the technology to help our customers to improve their operations.”

As introduced, the company is dedicated to providing after-sales services to customers. There are some experts who constantly travel around the world to consult customers and optimize their works. In China office, there is a team with 40 staff, in which half of them are responsible for after-sales services.

Sustainability offers development opportunity

Facing the stricter regulations on environmental protection imposed by the Chinese government, the company believed that it is a good development opportunity. Under the company motto of “Greenovation”(which stands for “Green” and “Innovation”), W&H offers variety of machines that produce less waste and emission.

During the interview, Cluesserath also gave an example of how the company contributed to sustainability. The company’s central impression flexographic printing presses come with water-based ink instead of solvent-based ink as water-based ink has lower potential hazards with lower energy requirements. “That is another advantage that we offer our customers with our portfolio,” he commented.

Earned 835 million turnover last year

The nearly 150-year old company concluded the 2017 business year with a turnover of approximately 835 million, which is the highest in the Group’s history.

“We are very optimistic about the Chinese market and it has been developing these years,” commented Meyer. “To us, China is one of the most important markets in Asia Pacific.”
