Seeing China as a market leader in Asia and a big market for the company, SCG Chemicals, once again exhibited in CHINAPLAS after participating in the show for three times since 2011.

“We sell a lot of commodity products in China, but in the past years we have been focusing on what we call ‘high-value-added’ products in particular areas such as automotive, electrical appliances, pipe industries, and packaging in food & beverage segment said Thanapat Kaweetraiphop, Food & Beverage Business Director of SCG Chemicals.

As a key Asian manufacturer and supplier of a full range of petrochemical products ranging from upstream monomers to downstream polymers including polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), SCG Chemicals sells to more than 150 countries over the world in addition to Thailand, its home country.

The newest SMX Technology was one of SCG Chemicals’ highlights at the show. Newly developed by the company, the technology can be used to produce innovative PE resins with enhanced mechanical properties.

To demonstrate the benefits of the SMX Technology, the company showcased a 1.5kg brick held in a bag made of a 3-micron thick “Super Thin Film” versus a brick of the same weight held in a bag made of a 10-micron thick HDPE film.

“Converters and formulators can reduce the thickness of the film, hence saving materials, while having better mechnical properties,” said Mr Thanapat.

The SMX Technology can also be applied to the production of caps and closures of lighter weight.

“While generally a cap weighs above 2g each, with the SMX Technology, we’ve also come up with 1.8g caps. People can save the Earth by using less material thanks to improved material properties,” added Mr Thanapat.

Meanwhile, SCG Chemicals also showcased its new grade for PE pipes, PE112. “The existing standard for pressure resistance is the PE100. We came up with the PE112 which can resist higher pressure and more abrasion resistance,” said Thanapat.

According to the company’s introduction, compared with the PE100, the PE112 delivers over 50% enhancement in abrasion resistance to mining pipes, hence extending use-life and reducing replacement costs.

When used in water pipes, the new pipe grade offers more than 10% higher pressure resistance than the PE100 does, thus making thickness reduction possible.

“With our new developments, we are capturing the mega trend of sustainability. The products not only have to be good to the environment but also be affordable solutions to the customer,” emphasized Mr Thanapat.

With a goal to provide complete solutions and a one-stop service for its customers, SCG Chemicals is developing its first application center in Thailand, which is expected to be ready in the middle of next year. This will help our business partners to speed up new innovative products or services to fit the best with their inquiries.
