China’s injection molding machine market has constantly been under intense competition. While there is an oversupply of injection molding machines with ordinary specifications (excluding high-sized machines), market demand for high-tech injection molding machines is becoming stronger and stronger.

Against this background, Ningbo Shuangma Machinery Industry Co Ltd. had a complete showcase of its Bole brand’s all four series of injection molding machines and solutions at CHINAPLAS 2018.

Four pieces of equipment were shown, including the BL950DK, a 950-ton two-platen machine model BL950DK; the BL280EKS, a new generation of hydraulic injection molding machine under the EK-S series; the E400, an all-electric injection molding machine, and its CIML series of carbon fiber intelligent injection molding line.

As a response to the automotive lightweighting trend, the CIML (Carbon-Fiber Products Intelligent Moulding Line) for the production of carbon fiber products was the manufacturer’s most significant exhibit at the exhibition. It combines a two-platen machine and very advanced plasticizing technology to prepare some materials to create compounds.


“The CIML is a complex technology based on the injection molding process. It has a lot of different technologies and solutions combined with an injection molding machine,” introduced Otto Karl Grunitz, Shuangma’s General Manager (Two Platen Machines) and Chief Engineer.

“The technology was developed, for example, to replace metals to reduce weight,” he explained. “With the use of the new material, it is possible to reduce the weight of a car by about 20%. This kind of high technology material will be the future, for sure.”

He added that, while more complex parts can be produced, it is also possible to yield a finished part in one shot without the need for complicated mechanical processes, hence leading to high productivity.

The BL950DK, a member of Bole brand’s DK series of two-platen machines, features a smaller, optimized machine size for the production of small automotive parts. And thanks to patented tie-bar and cylinder designs and an excellent control system, it is said to be on par with imported equipment in terms of stability, half-nut failure rate, dry cycle time, machine life and so on.

Talking about the Industry 4.0 topic, Mr Grunitz noted that Bole machines are not only designed and produced under European standards, but also built to ensure easier, quicker and more precise exchange of information for the sake of increasing productivity.

“Information has become more important and exchange of information is only possible with this new level of industrial automation. As a company producing machines, we listen to what is going on in this area and adapt our machines to new developments,” said Mr Grunitz.

For instance, Beckhoff control systems with EtherCAT technology are adopted to accelerate data exchange, which is said to be particularly important for complex machines with two or three injection units.

Shuangma is one of China’s three backbone enterprises with the title of “Injection Molding Machine Special Industry Base of China”. As claimed to be a global thinking company by Mr Grunitz, it produces in not only China but also other countries. In May 2017, the company’s India factory started production. In addition to automotive applications, the company also eyes on applications for producing large and complex parts for, say, the furniture industry.
