AIMPLAS and ITI are developing the project PLASMATIC2, with the purpose of helping plastic enterprises in their transition to Industry 4.0.

During 2018, AIMPLAS, a Spain-based plastics technology centre, and ITI, the Institute of Computer Technology, are developing the project PLASMATIC2.

As a continuation of the first year of the project, PLASMATIC2 seeks to respond to sustainability, enrichment and competitiveness challenges of the manufacturing industrial plants by incorporating Advanced Predictive Maintenance solutions in the plastics industry. It brings together the capabilities of both centres within the framework of IVACE (the Valencian Institute of Business Competitivity) call under the programme budget for 2018.

This project is born out of the need and difficulty that companies in the plastic industry find of incorporating more efficient processes to adapt themselves to a context in which globalisation is increasingly demanding, produced to a large extent by the evolution towards Industry 4.0.

In this second part of the project, another company will take part, Faperin, dedicated to the injection of plastic parts mainly for the automotive industry, which will allow us to deploy the final pilot experience in a real-world environment as samples of technology transfer to the Valencian industry.

During this pilot experience, AIMPLAS will be in charge of sensing a plastic injection machine, while ITI will collect the measurements of these sensors together with the data provided by the machine itself to implement an advanced predictive maintenance system based on statistical techniques and automatic learning. 

The project PLASMATIC has been supported by the Regional Ministry of Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Trade and Employment of the Valencian regional government through the Valencian Institute of Business Competitivity and is co-funded by the EU ERDF funds within the Valencian Region’s 2014-2020 ERDF operational programme.
