Speedformer KMD 64.2 Speed was launched recently at Kiefel Packaging Dialogue day. A bigger version, Speedformer KMD 78.2 Speed, will be presented at K 2019.

Kiefel has just launched its new generation of KMD Speedformer thermoforming machines, and the Speedformer KMD 78.2 Speed will be performing live at K 2019. This new generation of Kiefel steel rule machines offers the usual quality with even greater productivity and energy efficiency.

"The new generation of machines is fast and reliable,” explains Erwin Wabnig, Director Packaging Division at Kiefel. “Operators can operate them intuitively even without specific training.”

In addition to common materials and products, the new system can also process novel film materials and produce even complex products whilst consuming a minimal amount of energy.

As introduced, the heating system is ready for use within a very short time and excels with a 20% higher heating capacity despite reduced energy consumption. In combination with the servo drives' energy recovery system this leads to considerable energy savings.

The new KMD generation also saves films. A newly developed film feed table safely and gently guides the film to the film transport system. The proven station drives stabilize and work symmetrically.

The further optimized forming air vacuum system enables customers to produce superior molded parts. The ergonomic tool change systems can significantly shorten set-up times. The many improvements and details add up to significantly increase the up-time of the KMD 78.2 Speed.

Pictograms and graphics, some animated, support the adjustment of machine parameters. If necessary, they aid fault diagnosis and rectification as well. The new KMD generation only needs a few parameters to be input, the rest are automatically determined by installed algorithms.

The display shows the entire forming process and other important processes at a glance, important functions are just a click away. This makes the complete process easy to understand, even for non-experts.

The next generation of KTR 5.2 Speed also on stage


KIEFEL have also focused on the continued development of the tried-and-tested cup-forming machines for the KTR 5.2 Speed. Visitors are offered the opportunity to experience the new generation at the K show.

Optimizations were done along the entire KTR 5.2 Speed cup-forming system, starting with film transport via the heating, forming station, forming air supply, tool cooling, tooling and tool change through to the new stacking system with downstream automated carton packaging.
KIEFEL GmbH, a member of the Brückner group, develops and produces high quality machines for processing plastic films.
A planetary gearbox with a water-cooled servomotor improves drivetrain rigidity whilst reducing vibration throughout the system. In addition, the new motor-gearbox combination permits up to 50 cycles per minute and increases the punching force to 400 kN.

The enlargement of the usable molding surface results in an increase in the number of cavities in the tool. Optimized rapid tool change reduces downtime. Flow-optimized forming air lines fill the cavities consistently and reduce the filling time by 25% and the venting time by 30%.

In addition, seven complete heating steps ensure precision heat distribution. The nominal heating capacity has been reduced by about 15% whilst maintaining the heat input.

The new tool cooling system is fully automatic and sensor-controlled, reducing energy losses. This innovation also has a positive effect on tool life and product quality.

The new, gentle film guide avoids scratches, particles on the film and the loss of contact heat. The threading of the film is greatly improved thanks to excellent ergonomics and the new geometry at the infeed table.

Control of the entire system KTR 5.2 including the SPEEDSTACKER, designed to stack a wide variety of plastic articles, via only one control panel makes operation even easier. This means that articles are stacked easily, quickly and flexibly.
