SOREMA (a Previero Division) presented its new plastic post-consumer recycling technologies at K 2019 held in Düsseldorf, Germany. It has installed hundreds of recycling systems since 1976 for all types of plastic waste.

The company offers individual modules to turnkey projects, including complete recycling systems for PET/HDPE bottles and thermoforms; and complete recycling systems for PE, PP, PS, PET film of post-consumer, post-industrial or agriculture origins.

One of the latest developments is the third generation of SOREMA’s advanced pre-washing system for bottles.

The system allows to process both with hot and/or cold water the most contaminated bales of PET bottles, converted into high quality rPET flakes, reducing the operative costs with lower consumption of the energy, chemicals and water.

Thanks to the combined action of a centrifuge with a ballistic separator, the system decontaminates the surface and removes the labels of the bottles with minimum loss of material. Moreover, the process does not allow the water to enter the bottles.

The possibility to run clean bottles without labels and free from water dripping improves the efficiency of the whole recycling operation, allowing the sorting and grinding of cleaned material after the pre‐wash phase.

According to Andrea Villa, Sales Engineer at SOREMA, the company’s systems can be connected to extrusion systems, and the company has experts to help customers to make bottle-to-bottle designs.

“We are able to design a system that complies with the input material, which will come out meeting the requirements of the customers. We are not involved in extrusion and other steps,” he explained. “Through our process, we provide materials that are very well washed on the surface and very well controlled in polymer specification.”

In his opinion, today, training people in society how to handle the waste is more a problem than recycling the plastics. Besides, the steps of collecting and sorting are rarely integrated into washing. So the interface between the steps would need to be improved.
