Assocomaplast renamed Amaplast

Assocomaplast, the Italian trade association of plastics and rubber processing machinery and moulds industry, has changed its name to Amaplast.

The notion was approved during Assocomaplast’s annual Member Assembly on June 7. Elections of President and three Vice Presidents for two-year terms 2017-19 was also held. Alessandro Grassi was confirmed for a second term as President while Andrea Franceschetti (Gefran), Massimo Margaglione (Gefit), and Corrado Zanga (Uniloy Milacron) were elected as Vice Presidents.

US’ DOJ approves DowDuPont merger

DuPont and The Dow Chemical Company have reached a proposed agreement with the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice (DOJ) that will permit the companies to proceed with their proposed merger of equals.

The two companies reaffirmed their expectation to close the merger in August, with the intended spin-offs to occur within 18 months of closing.

Dr. Stefan Kruppa to become new Head of Machine Technology at KraussMaffei

Dr. Stefan Kruppa will become the new Head of the Machine Technology department at KraussMaffei, effective August 1.

He will take over from Dr. Reinhard Schiffers, who will succeed Prof. Dr. Johannes Wortberg as Chair for Design and Plastics Machines at the University of Duisburg-Essen on September 1.

The aim of his new task, above all, is in the development of new intelligent systems and solutions for injection molding machinery. Within this framework, he will also be in charge of activities involving Industry 4.0 for the Injection Molding Machinery segment, which KraussMaffei brings together under the name Plastics 4.0.

NatureWorks creates Performance Chemicals Division

NatureWorks has formed a Performance Chemicals Division to supply lactides, polyols, binder resins, and chemical intermediates to companies that manufacture innovative C.A.S.E. (coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers), toners, and fine chemicals.

Vercet is a new tunable platform of lactide-based chemistries from the NatureWorks Performance Chemicals Division. As components in polyester resins, Vercet lactides can be used to create low volatile organic compound (VOC), solvent-borne alkyd resins for wood, and metal coatings that have strong adhesion and impact resistance, according to the company.

Clariant and Huntsman merger to form US$20 billion chemicals giant

The Board of Switzerland specialty chemicals company Clariant and US-based Huntsman unanimously approved a definite agreement to combine in a merger of equals through an all-stock transaction.

The merged company will be named HuntsmanClariant. On a pro forma 2016 basis, the combination of both companies will create a leading global specialty chemical company with sales of approximately US$13.2 billion, an adjusted EBITDA of US$2.3 billion and a combined enterprise value of approximately US$20 billion at announcement.

Tekni-Plex announces US$15 million new manufacturing facility in China

tekni-Plex, Inc. is investing US$15 million in a new manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China. It represents the company’s single largest recent investment and is part of the company’s process to phase out production at its existing Suzhou facility that has been in operation since 2005.

Initially, the 13,000+sqm facility will manufacture products for Tekni-Plex's Natvar, Colorite and Action Technology business units. The site will feature three Class 100K cleanrooms to accommodate medical-grade tubing and components production plus one Class 10K cleanroom that will produce Natvar’s pharma-grade tubing.

It will also produce Natvar’s recently-announced silicone extrusion tubing for catheters, feeding tubes, drug delivery and peristaltic pump applications, as well as micro-extrusion tubing.

In addition, it will also manufacture Colorite custom compounds for medical device applications, and Action Technology’s dip tubes used in a wide variety of food/beverage, pharmaceutical, personal care, industrial and household pump applications.
