National Exhibition and Convention Center, Hongqiao, Shanghai.
National Exhibition and Convention Center, Hongqiao, Shanghai.

For the first time, CHINAPLAS will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Hongqiao, Shanghai, China. From 24 – 27 April, CHINAPLAS 2018 will bring together over 4,000 exhibitors from around the world in a series of meticulously well-organized theme zones with an exhibition area exceeding 340,000 square meters.

New experience at a new venue

As a high-tech platform for international professionals in the plastics and rubber industries, CHINAPLAS has been continuously expanding the event’s scale and upgrading its quality. For this year, the exhibition area is 30% bigger than that of the 2016 edition in Shanghai.

Meanwhile, exhibitors and visitors alike have been demanding more and better exhibition services at CHINAPLAS, according to Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., the show’s organizer.

From 2012 onwards, CHINAPLAS has faced the problem of space shortage, according to Ms. Ada Leung, Adsale’s General Manager. “Previously, when we held the show at the Shanghai New International Expo Center in Pudong, we had used all the indoor exhibition halls. We even built outdoor temporary exhibition halls, but still couldn’t meet the huge demand from our exhibitors. By moving to the new venue, NECC, Adsale can fulfill the strong demand for exhibition space immediately. This relocation to the new venue is also good for the long-term development of CHINAPLAS,” she said.

The shape of the NECC is like a blooming “four-leaf clover”. With a total construction area of 1.47 million square meters, it is the largest single block building and exhibition complex in the world.

There are 400,000 square meters of indoor area, which consists of 13 large exhibition halls and three small exhibition halls. There are conference rooms with different specifications and settings among the halls. The central area is a commercial plaza providing abundant catering services.

CHINAPLAS 2018 will not only accommodate more exhibitors, but will also have better management in the set-up of theme zones, country/region pavilions, and concurrent events. We believe that visitors will have a new, high-quality visiting experience,” Ms. Leung said.

Revised theme zone layout for enhanced convenience

To bring visitors a good and convenient experience, the show organizer has rearranged the overall theme zone layout. For instance, extrusion-related technology is in the eastern part of the NECC, injection molding technology in the west, and blow molding technology in the southern part of the complex.
Technology advances drive the development of plastics and rubber industries.
Therefore, exhibits of the same category are near to each other, while different European pavilions, which were scattered in different halls in the past, have all come together in the same hall this year.

In total, there are a total of 14 pavilions at the fairground, namely Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, UK and the US.

A glittering hall of the young – Young Tech Hall

To facilitate visitors’ need of sourcing new CHINAPLAS suppliers, a “Young Tech Hall” is introduced at CHINAPLAS 2018. This is a comprehensive exhibition hall, which gathers together new exhibitors from diverse fields.

The new hall houses over 350 new exhibitors in an exhibition area of 20,000sqm, presenting additive, colour pigments and masterbatch, testing equipment, smart manufacturing  technologies, etc.

Young Tech Hall is introduced to help visitors locate exhibitors and products by further segmentation,” explained Ms. Leung. “It’s a win-win solution. New CHINAPLAS exhibitors can seize the opportunity to strategically market their brands and new products to Shanghai, while CHINAPLAS itself can draw in new blood, fresh energy, and more advanced technologies.”

Apart from the new Young Tech Hall, the mega show has been divided into a total of 18 different theme zones.

3D Technology Zone makes debut

As many high end manufacturing sectors are in urgent need for 3D printing (additive manufacturing) solutions to expedite development cycle and reduce research and development costs. Therefore, CHINAPLAS this year has set up a 3D Technology Zone to group together the suppliers of 3D printing technologies.

Renowned exhibitors include Autodesk, ZWCAD, Hong Cheng, Hanbang 3D, dMac and more.

Thermoplastic Elastomers & Rubber Zone sheds lights on future needs

With the advent of a low-carbon economy, light, energy-saving thermoplastic elastomers offer a wide range of applications and have a promising prospect.

Thermoplastic Elastomers & Rubber Zone, a new theme zone added to the Chemicals & Raw Materials Zone, gathers about 50 suppliers to showcase their latest products and solutions.

Exhibitors of the theme zone include Huntsman, Momentive, SIBUR, Top Polymer, Dawn, Huafon, Shin-Etsu, CPMC, Chinasound, KRAIBURG, Kraton, MIRACLL, LCY CHEMICAL, COIM among others.

Lightening up with exciting events

Apart from exhibitions of high technologies, CHINAPLAS 2018 will also hold several exciting concurrent events, including the “3rd Industry 4.0 Conference”, “Tech Talk”, “Medical Plastics Connect” and “CMF Inspiration for Design x Innovation”.

3rd Industry 4.0 Conference focuses on smart manufacturing
The 2nd Industry 4.0 Conference held last year was a big success.
Industry 4.0 solutions facilitate business transformation. CHINAPLAS started organizing a conference on this topic two years ago and received enthusiastic feedback. With continuing, full support from VDMA, the German Engineering Federation, the “3rd Industry 4.0 Conference” will take place at CHINAPLAS 2018.

Drawing on an accumulation of Industry 4.0 experience among global enterprises, the topics of this conference are far-reaching and practical. Participants can expect plenty of industry 4.0 factory case studies and in-depth application discussions.

Two sessions are organized to suit end-users’ needs in different sectors. Guest speakers come from Arburg, EREMA, KUKA, KraussMaffei, RWTH Aachen University, Engel, Reifenhäuser and other well-known enterprises.

Tech Talk enriched to cover more topics

For the plastics and rubber industries, CHINAPLAS is a sort of “annual tournament” where companies and organizations compete for visitors’ attention.

The organizer introduced “Tech Talk” last year to enrich the technology content of CHINAPLAS, creating a platform for international exhibitors to launch their state-of-the-art products.

Last edition of CHINAPLAS in Guangzhou featured more than 30 well-received talks, which provided visitors with valuable knowledge. This year, “Tech Talk” will touch on a wide range of topics, including:

  • Smart Manufacturing” which offers insights into automation/robotics, micro-injection molding, digitalization/informatization, in-mold labeling, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and 3D printing.
