Kyröntarhat Oy, which produce salads and herbs under the Vihreäkeiju brand, are the first food producers to sell coriander, packaged in carbon-neutral wood-based plastic and make it available to consumers.
The packaging material is a Finnish innovation called Woodly. The herbs will be available in selected K-Market stores in Turku region since 3 Feb 2021. Consumers will recognize the new packaging from the Woodly logo found on the packaging material.
Vihreäkeiju is the first food producer to bring herbs packed in carbon-neutral Woodly material to K-Market stores.
“It is great to bring packaging into the everyday lives of consumers, which will help save the environment and make the circular economy more efficient. Choosing Woodly packaging material sends a strong message to consumers about Vihreäkeiju’s pioneering spirit and responsibility,” said Kyröntarhat Oy’s CEO Tomi Levonen.
“It is great to be able to work with Vihreäkeiju to make Woodly packaging available to consumers. Replacing fossil plastics with bio-based plastics is a long-term project and needs to be done on a company-by-company basis. Leaders like Vihreäkeiju play a big role in this work,” noted Jaakko Kaminen, CEO of Woodly.
Woodly is a new type of wood-based, carbon-neutral material and can be used to reduce the use of fossil raw materials. The main raw material for Woodly material comes from certified coniferous forests, which are managed in accordance with international ecological and ethical standards. Products made from it can be sorted into plastic recycling or mixed waste after use.
