Mitsui Chemicals to double production capacity of PUDs for mono-material food packaging

Mitsui Chemicals announced its plan to expand its polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) production facilities in Shimizu Factory in order to meet the rising demand for mono-material food packaging.

The expansion of Shimizu Factory of Mitsui Chemicals MC, Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui Chemicals, will start in February 2024 and end in April the next year, and it is expected to bring an approximately double on domestic production capacity.

Mitsui Chemicals will expand its Shimizu Factory to increase its production capacity for PUDs.

Shimizu Factory produces TAKELAC PUDs, which are water-based resins that offer outstanding heat resistance, high-temperature gas barrier performance and fastness to rubbing. They are used extensively in the paint and coating materials, adhesives, binders, resin modifiers, sizing agent and textile processing sectors.

In recent years, the mounting concern on sustainability drives the growing demand for TAKELAC PUDs, especially in Europe, as barrier coating materials for use in recyclable mono-material food packaging.

With demand for mono-material packaging expected to continue increase, Mitsui Chemicals will proactively strengthen its supply network.
