Veolia China expects surging demand for recycled plastics in Q2

Source:Adsale Plastics Network Date :2023-04-16 Editor :Jeanie Koo

China can benefit from the relatively competitive energy prices and the ease of anti-pandemic restrictions, according to Francois Jenny, Senior Vice President of Veolia China.

He believes that demand for recycled plastics in China will increase starting from Q2 this year.

“In Europe, the price of recycled plastics has been affected by the increase of the price of energy, while in China, the demand for recycled plastics has been affected by the anti-pandemic policies,” he commented.

Jenny foresees a more favorable market for domestic companies in China, saying that new regulations are determining factors for the growth in demand for recycled plastics.

“In the short run, food contact regulations of PET will affect the demand,” he explained. “In the long run, the Chinese government may consider setting up minimum requirement for recycled plastic content in packaging as we have recently seen in Europe.”

He also expects an increase in production capacity. While big companies could benefit from large-scale production, the cost of production should be optimized.

With such optimistic views, Veolia is exhibiting in CHINAPLAS 2023 to meet its customers for better understanding of their needs and how Veolia can help them.

“The recycled plastics industry in China will become more and more important for our customers to achieve their environmental goals,” Jenny said. “It will be an opportunity to meet with stakeholders from this industry in China to share our views on the market.”

At the show, the company is highlighting its PLASTILOOP, a new global brand of ready-to-use circular polymers. PLASTILOOP was made possible by Veolia’s extensive network of experts and its 37 plastic recycling plants around the world. It provides its customers with a large variety of high-performance PET, PP, HDPE, PS, ABS, LDPE, and PC.

These circular resins can be fed into production lines in multiple industrial sectors, including packaging, textiles, agriculture, home appliances, automotive, industrial and logistics, and construction.

This new brand is a key advantage for recycled plastic produced by Veolia worldwide and in particular in China, commented Francois Jenny.

Looking ahead, Veolia will continue to invest in R&D to develop new products for different applications, and improve the quality of its product for the China market.
