NatureWorks to feature bio-based food packaging innovations at CHINAPLAS

At CHINAPLAS 2023, NatureWorks will be showcasing its latest innovations in thermoformed and flexible food packaging resulting from joint development between NatureWorks and CJ Biomaterials.

Using NatureWorks' Ingeo PLA and CJ Biomaterials' PHACT PHA, the two companies are developing bio-based solutions that create new performance attributes for compostable rigid and flexible food packaging and food serviceware.

The new solutions developed will also aim to introduce new performance advantages as well as speed up biodegradation to introduce more “after-use” options consistent with a circular economy model.

For the first time in Asia and at CHINAPLAS, NatureWorks will display its recently launched Ingeo 6500D biopolymer grade, which is designed to create softer, bio-based nonwovens for hygiene applications. In combination with its hydrophilic fibers technology, this new product can be used to produce soft nonwovens that outperform polypropylene in properties such as re-wet and surface run-off.

Its booth will also include a tea and coffee bar featuring the latest launches of compostable product formats by brands from Asia and Europe. Compostable tea bags and coffee capsules made from Ingeo biopolymer have a low carbon footprint and facilitate diverting organic waste away from landfill and incineration to compost for soil nutrients.

For 3D printing, NatureWorks will showcase how Ingeo can be used in industrial level applications such as manufacturing prototypes or custom-fit medical equipment. It will also highlight how Ingeo 3D700 has been specifically developed for large format printing applications in industrial settings to prevent warpage and lost time when creating very large 3D printed models.
