Röhm rolls out PMMA-based copolymer compounds for medical devices

Source:Adsale Plastics Network Date :2023-02-16 Editor :JK

Röhm has added two innovative products to its CYROLITE portfolio. The CYROLITE acrylic-based copolymer compounds are developed for the medical applications in particular.

The new CYROLITE G-20 CP is a PMMA-based copolymer for injection molding and extrusion of UV- Light protective medical applications. Used for injection molding and extrusion applications, it ensures integrity of photosensitive substances such as oncology drugs, antibiotic, and antifungal agents that require UV-light protection.

Features:

  • Low UV-light transmission <1.0% 260 - 480 nm

  • High transmittance between 500 – 780 nm

"CYROLITE G-20 CP, allows designers the flexibility to create medical devices that offer dynamic properties which are crucial to innovation within the medical field,” said Thomas Spagnuolo, Vice President and General Manager of Molding Compounds at Roehm America.

Röhm launches CYROLITE G-20 CP and CYROLITE MD zk6 for the medical industry.

With high processability and bonding properties, CYROLITE G-20 CP is dynamic and adaptable in the design of medical applications. With five times the impact resistance of unmodified acrylics and high resistance to body fluids and other chemicals, it ensures industry-leading safety and protection to its contents.

Another new product, the CYROLITE MD zk6 acrylic polymer, is an amorphous, impact modified thermoplastic injection molding and extrusion compound based on PMMA for the medical device and diagnostics industry.

High impact resistance and ductility/toughness make it suitable for applications like dialysis cassettes, test packs, filter housings, microfluidics, luers, tube connectors, IV catheter hubs, and Y sites.

Features:

  • 3 times the impact resistance of the other MD grade acrylics

  • High light transmission with little haze
