PolyOne to exhibit Geon HC for medical device housings at Medtec 2012

Sep 5, 2012
At Medtec 2012, PolyOne Corporation will exhibit a new addition to the Geon HC family of medical solutions, the Geon HC for medical device housings.

"Hospitals and medical professionals are increasingly concerned about the transmission of hospital-acquired infections, which has resulted in increased use of stronger chemical disinfectants," said Rob Rosenau, President, Performance Products & Solutions. "This has led to an increase in medical device failures due to polymer cracking and crazing. We have used our expertise in these industries and in healthcare to create this new offering, which is specifically designed to have excellent chemical resistance to common hospital disinfectants."

He said that independent testing indicates that Geon HC for medical device housings has superior chemical resistance compared to many engineering thermoplastic alternatives for medical housings. In addition, Geon HC has good flame resistance, impact resistance and flow properties, which allows for higher design flexibility. A range of colors and metallic effects are available.

"More often our customers are seeking unique colors whether it is for branding a home healthcare device or improving patient safety by color coding their device housings," said Larry Johnson, Global Healthcare Marketing Director for PolyOne. "We work with them to fulfill that need. In addition, Geon HC is ideal for a wide-range of medical devices, including infusion pumps, imaging systems, and patient monitors."

Medtec 2012 will be held in Shanghai, China from September 26-27.
