Applied Market Information Ltd (AMI), specialist market research and consulting company, announced on July 22 that the 6th International Conference on Thin Wall Packaging will take place from December 6-8 at the Maritim Hotel in Cologne, Germany.

The conference focus is on lightweight plastics packaging tubs, cups, trays, jars and pots. It looks at storage and functionality of plastics materials in protecting and preserving items such as meat, yogurt, margarine, fruit and vegetables, dairy, fish, soup, and ready meals.

The conference will start with a keynote presentation from Dr Philippe Diercxsens, Packaging and Environment Manager at Danone Waters discussing packaging sustainability through legal, technical and commercial constraints, followed by a paper from Dr Frederic Dreux of Unilever asking if there is beauty in downgauging.

There will be a market overview from AMI's Head of Strategic Research Jon Nash as well as papers from Promens Stilling A/S about thin wall combi packaging and from Plastic Technologies Inc. on pushing boundaries for two compartment PET containers.

In the material section the audience will be hearing the latest about foam trays from Coopbox Group SpA, clear polypropylene from Milliken Europe BVBA, Rigid packaging from Dow Chemical Iberica S.L. and the latest in glass replacement technology with a paper from Norner A/S.

The new technology session has papers from Nestal Maschinen AG, Sabic, GR8 Engineering Ltd, Kiefel GmbH, Kilde A/S Automation and Fraunhofer IVV.
