Mitsubishi Chemical introduces plant-based microporous film

Source:Adsale Plastics Network Date :2021-08-18 Editor :JK

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation announced the launch of Green KTF, a mostly plant-based microporous film. Approximately 90% of Green KTF is derived from natural products such as calcium carbonate and plant-derived polyethylene while having the same performance as conventional KTF. The structure of the film has pores large enough to allow water vapor to pass, but small enough to block water droplets.

The manufacturing of this unique plant-based film has been made possible through MCC’s development of a new production method. In comparison to the conventional product, Green KTF releases approximately 30% less CO2 emissions during production, reducing the environmental burden.

KTF is mainly used in the back sheets of disposable diapers and other hygiene materials, as well as the bases for high-performance protective clothing. Recently demand has been increasing with the development of the Asian region and it is expected to experience steady growth in the future.

Based on the medium- to long-term management strategy "KAITEKI Vision 30" set forth by the Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group, MCC is continually expanding its bio-based product offerings to realize a circular economy.
