Crafters Polypropylene Packages, a woven plastic packaging producer based in Pakistan, has achieved a production record of 199,000 sacks per day with ad*starKON HX easy-open block bottom sack conversion line from Starlinger.

Staff and management team from Crafters and Starlinger mark the daily production record of bottom sack conversion line.

To meet the growing demand for AD*STAR sacks, a type of block bottom valve sack made of woven polypropylene (PP) tape fabric for packaging dry bulk goods, Crafters installed two bottom sack conversion lines from Starlinger and continuously ramps up production.

Omair, Rehman, Director of Crafters, commented Starlinger’s equipment delivers excellent production quality with high output. Operating with high efficiency and minimum downtimes, the conversion line hardly has interruption of production due to jammed fabric or technical issues. Maintenance work and sack format change are quick and easy as well.

Lightweight sack for dry bulk goods

Crafters’ AD*STAR sacks are supplied to the cement industry. The sack is considered the most lightweight type of sack on the market for dry bulk goods – with a sack weight of 65g for a filling volume of 50kg.

Crafters produces AD*STAR sacks on ad*starKON HX easy-open block bottom sack conversion line from Starlinger.

The woven structure of sack enables its low packaging weight yet high strength. The tapes used for fabric production are made of PP in a special extrusion process, including stretching and annealing to achieve the special features of tape.

Then, the tapes undergo a weaving process on circular looms. Produced fabric is coated and printed. After that, it is converted to block bottom valve sacks.

AD*STAR sacks can also be equipped with a variety of options, such as an easy-open closure. For this, a special easy-open strip is welded onto the sack bottom which can be torn off to pour out the cement.

Designed for circularity

In addition, the sack contributes to sustainability and circularity. With lowest possible weight but strongest strength, the production of sack saves significant quantities of raw materials. Moreover, with the mono-material characteristic, the sacks are designed for recycling.

“We also succeeded in using high shares of recycled PP in tape production without compromising the fabric strength and other important characteristics of the sacks,” explained David Grabenweger, AD*STAR Product Manager at Starlinger.
