Röhm commissions plant for expanding PMMA production capacity in China
Röhm officially commissioned its polymerization plant in Shanghai to expand its production capacity for PLEXIGLAS, a PMMA molding compound.

Röhm commissioned polymerization plant for PLEXIGLAS in Shanghai.
PLEXIGLAS is suitable for applications where durability, resistance to weather and UV, color fastness, high luminosity and transparency as well as hardness and scratch-resistance are key.
As China is the largest market for MMA and PMMA in the world, Röhm has been supplying the market with PLEXIGLAS molding compounds since 1990s and serve local customers with its own plant in Shanghai since 2008.
The basis of success in the Asian market is not only the high-quality PLEXIGLAS molding compounds, but also customized innovations that Röhm has developed specifically for the Asian market, such as PLEXIGLAS Hi-Gloss for automotive pillar trim and PLEXIGLAS Resist for electronic displays.
Trends such as electromobility in the automotive sector and growing customer requirements in the lighting industry also facilitate PMMA innovations. Röhm’s newly built innovation center in Shanghai also offers the best conditions for customer-oriented developments.
“The expansion of our global PMMA capacities is an important step on our way to becoming the leading methacrylate Verbund,” said Hans-Peter Hauck, COO. Thus, at the end of 2023, another PMMA plant will also start production in Worms, Germany.
