Reliance Industries achieves India-first chemical recycling for plastic-waste-based pyrolysis oil

Jan 19, 2024

Reliance Industries chemically recycled plastic waste-based pyrolysis oil into ISCC-Plus certified circular polymers, becoming the first Indian company to achieve this accomplishment.

This shows the company’s commitment in reducing plastic waste and supporting circular economy in India.

Reliance Industries carried out chemical recycling on pyrolysis oil into circular polymers, with brand named CircuRepol and CircuRelene.

Reliance Industries shipped its first batch of ISCC-Plus certified Circular Polymers, named CircuRepol Polypropylene (PP) and CircuRelene Polyethylene (PE).

The company’s Jamnagar refinery receive ISCC-Plus certification, proving that it can produce circular polymers through chemical recycling. The international certification guarantees traceability and rules followed in making the circular polymers.

Chemical recycling has many benefits, including turning plastic waste into high-quality materials for new plastic. These materials can be used for packaging that comes into contact with food. Reliance Industries has developed a technology that turns different types of plastic waste, including single-use and multi-layered plastics, into pyrolysis oil.
