SACMI denotes AI and digitalization in rigid packaging
At CHINAPLAS 2024, SACMI focuses on ready-to-use solutions that set new standards and deliver tangible advantages of efficient processing, high-quality products, and user-friendly plant operation.
Continuous developments in neck and cap
“The global plastic packaging market continues to show signs of strong dynamism and steadily growing global demand,” states Armando Pratella, Regional Manager of Rigid Packaging Business Unit at SACMI.
To adapt to the far-reaching changes taking place in the packaging industry, there is a burgeoning need for flexible solutions and continuous developments in new neck and cap formats for bottles, which follow highly diversified regulatory frameworks and consumption patterns.
In practice, SACMI presents its latest 26/22 mm neck solutions to visitors, which reflect the Italian company’s expertise in “future-proof” products and technologies in a comprehensive portfolio of solutions. Another exhibit is the IPS preform press range, the first on the market to incorporate the vision system directly.

Rise of AI and process digitalization
Talking about challenges faced by the packaging industry, Pratella points out that the industry is facing sweeping change in the form of artificial intelligence (AI) and process digitalization, which in turn, also brings enormous opportunities.
“In the near future, we can expect to see operators communicating with the machine to reap advantages at every stage of the process,” he continues. “Higher efficiency and reliability, easy-to-operate plants, and better long-term quality are the aims.”
With its leading continuous compression molding (CCM) technology, SACMI shows a new generation of intelligent controls at the fairgrounds, including machines that can self-regulate all the parameters and provide predictive information of the process.
Another set of exhibits concerns the in-Cloud sharing of machine data and the latest quality control software and systems, which demonstrates the full utilization of AI. The exclusive Classy AI, with an advanced user-friendly interface, is one of the examples.

SACMI’s new intelligent controls with CCM technology have been tested on the market.
Flexible and customer-oriented solutions
Flexible solutions in terms of standards, norms and formats are essential to respond to the ever-changing market trends.
“The main beneficiaries of all our solutions are our customers and, more generally, the end consumers and, ultimately, the planet,” notes Pratella.
For example, SACMI’s band slitting technology in post-processing downstream from compression molding offers a simple yet profitable solution that helps customers transition with efficiency, flexibility and limited outlay.
“We are already set to present some of the new opportunities in rigid packaging and other sectors,” he concludes.
