LEONHARD KURZ’s Automotive Rear End Cover concept wins Gold at the German Innovation Award 2024.

The company’s Automotive Rear End Cover concept showcases its innovative ways to merge decorative elements with smart functionality. The rear component is with integrated sensors, is 5G-capable and radar-permeable. The 3D lighting effects and day-night designs also create a surprising design effect.

LEONHARD KURZ utilizes specially developed technologies for the production process of the Rear End Cover. Using the 2K In-Mold Decoration process (2K IMD), the component is produced in just 60 to 70 seconds and surface finished at the same time.

With In-Mold Electronics (IME), it is able to integrate ultra-thin touch sensors in the same work step. A 2K material mix of opaque and transparent plastics in the production enables targeted light isolation without unwanted light scattering.

The Rear End Cover can also be manufactured and finished using recycling material with consistently high quality.
