Circular Plas and TOYO develop recycled feedstock for petrochemicals

Jun 28, 2024

Circular Plas, an affiliate company of SCG Chemicals, entered into a joint development agreement with Toyo Engineering Corporation to commercialize equipment and engineering process to turn mixed post-consumer plastics into recycled feedstock for petrochemical businesses.

SCGC’s Circular Plas and TOYO jointly develop in turning mixed post-consumer plastics into recycled feedstock for petrochemical businesses.

The demonstration plant in Rayong province, Thailand, has successfully converted post-consumer plastics into pyrolysis products, a raw material for petrochemical plants. The products are also certified by the ISCC certification.

Circular Plas' plastic-recycling technology is utilized in the plant. Its liquefaction process significantly reduces the temperature required for conversion, resulting in higher yields of light cracked oils and a reduced environmental footprint.

TOYO's expertise in reactor design is also instrumental in handling the variable nature of post-consumer plastics.

The conversion from post-consumer plastics into pyrolysis products closes the loop in plastic lifecycle.

Currently, a new reactor jointly developed and designed between the two partners is being prepared for installation in the demonstration plant. The reactor system is expected to demonstrate in early 2025, bringing a prospect of scaling up the demonstration plant to achieving commercialization target.

This partnership reflects both TOYO’s "Engineering for Sustainable Growth of the Global Community” mission and SCGC's sustainability goals under “Low Waste, Low Carbon” approach.
