INEOS commissions pilot line for recyclable flexible films

Jul 11, 2024

INEOS Olefins & Polymers Europe becomes the world’s first polymer producer to successfully commission a new pilot line to co-develop recyclable flexible packaging films with customers.

With multi-million Euro investment, the new multilayer, blown film line with Machine Direction Orientation (MDO), supplied by Hosokawa Alpine, has been installed at INEOS’ R&D center in Brussels, Belgium.

The state-of-the-art technology heats and stretches polymer films to improve their physical and barrier properties, enabling them to be used in different product applications.

The first collaboration projects are already in progress, developing new films that can be applied directly to customer production lines.

Making simpler films with the same performance means the new packaging can be more easily recycled, to meet the requirements of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.

This new pilot line from INEOS could help prevent around one million tons of waste from being sent to landfill each year, according to calculation from Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging (CEFLEX).
