ExxonMobil launches its Enable 1617 performance polyethylene (PE) grade for thin-gauge hand wrap applications. The new grade is designed to provide high tenacity and consistent extrusion, as well as enable to incorporate post-consumer recycled (PCR) content.

ExxonMobil’s Enable 1617 performance PE grade is ideal for thin-gauge hand wrap applications.

Enable performance PE solution delivers high tenacity, strong holding force and great load stability. Its high flow and tenacity contribute to great cast film processing, exhibited by fast line speed, low pressure and low motor load.

The new resin can be run in coextruded structures as discrete layers. The balanced properties contribute to stiff, thinner gauge film, while offering consistent extrusion and high throughput rates, up to 650 m/min for 8 μm film thickness.

Enable 1617 allows to incorporate more than 30% PCR content, while maintaining high processability and high film quality. The high melt strength of Enable 1617 contributes to process stability while the high flow enables processing of thin gauge film at high extrusion rates. Even with recycled content, Enable 1617 can help maintain acceptable film properties without need to up-gauge.

“Our new resin not only can enhance performance but also can support the incorporation of recycled content. We believe this product will help our customers achieve their operational objectives more efficiently such as helping support their goals of reducing raw material use,” said Justin Schmader, Market Development Manager.
