AkzoNobel’s powder coatings technology provide improved electrical protection for EV battery.

The coatings technology is able to build a consistent film with the right thickness for providing high dielectric strength with one-time application, ensuring the efficient process. It boosts the safety of EV battery systems, as well as provides resistance against thermal shock, water immersion and chemicals.

The new technology is suitable for battery system parts such as cooling plates, side plates and battery covers (enclosures), and it is available in China.

“Thanks to decades of knowledge and non-stop innovation, we understand how exceptional powder coatings, combined with the right application technique, can provide consistent electrical insulation throughout the life of key battery system components,” said Jeff Jirak, Director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business.

AkzoNobel’s Resicoat powder coatings range has been solving the challenge of electrical insulation across various industries since the 1960s. In 2023, a dedicated range of Resicoat EV powder coatings was launched, which is specifically designed to help improve the safety and performance of EV components such as battery systems and electric motors.
