BASF launches new ether-based Elastollan TPU series

BASF launches a new ether-based thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) – Elastollan 1400 – with excellent hydrolysis resistance and mechanical properties.

 

Elastollan 1400 provides exceptional hydrolysis and microbe resistance, combining stable processing behavior with good compression set properties. The material delivers outstanding burst pressure performance and can be processed by extrusion and injection molding.

 

With aging stability, Elastollan 1400 is suitable for a wide range of applications such as transportation, industrial manufacturing, and footwear. This material provides reliability and long-lasting performance in rail pads, cable sheathings, tubes and hoses, profiles, gearwheels, or shoe soles.

 

For footwear industry, the TPU grade provides superior wet slip resistance, ensuring enhanced safety and comfort.

Elastollan 1400 is suitable for a wide range of applications.

 

Elastollan 1400 also offers unique dynamic properties originated from a discrete glass transition temperature and an extended viscoelastic plateau. These contribute to improved dimensional stability and a wide thermal application range.

 

In addition, the TPU series offers a lower carbon footprint compared to other TPU grades with a comparable performance. For example, grade for a hardness of shore 80 A is possible to reduce carbon footprint by up to 30%.

 

After more than two years of research, experimental grades for specific applications and processing technologies are available for sampling.
