Evonik introduces game-changing co-binder for plastic recycling
In a significant advancement for sustainable packaging solutions, Evonik Coating Additives has unveiled its innovative TEGO Res 1100 co-binder, designed to revolutionize the deinking process for plastic waste recycling.
The new methacrylate copolymer promises to enhance circularity in the packaging industry by making plastic film recycling more efficient and environmentally friendly. It enables faster and more effective removal of inks from plastic films while maintaining the high performance of solventborne ink formulations.
What sets TEGO Res 1100 apart is its remarkable versatility. It integrates seamlessly into existing solventborne ink systems without requiring equipment modifications, offering excellent compatibility with various binders and solvents including alcohols and esters. The product's food contact compliance further expands its potential applications, making it suitable for food packaging recycling.
TEGO Res 1100 is also able to operate effectively at remarkably low temperatures. Dr. Christian Schirrmacher, Project Manager and Head of Applied Technology Inks EMEA, explains it as, “Our testing shows that adding just 3-10% of our TEGO Res 1100 delivers excellent deinking results, even at temperatures as low as 40°C, with or without surfactants. The possible temperature reduction offers significant energy savings. "
