Today, at the Crowne Plaza Shenzhen Nanshan in China, the 6th Edition CHINAPLAS X CPRJ Plastics Recycling and Circular Economy Conference and Showcase witnessed the global collaboration for the circular economy in the plastics industry again.

With a strong lineup of speakers from Europe, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and across China’s plastic recycling industry chain, the event attracted more than 800 of participants.


Nearly 50 technical and case study presentations were held, along with over 60 showcases of advanced materials and processing, three special themed salons, and engaging interactive games, providing participants with an immersive exploration of new trends in plastic recycling technologies and markets.

Global insights: Progress in plastic recycling and China's actions


Guanglong Wu, Senior Specialist and Section Chief at the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, provided a detailed overview of China's efforts in plastic pollution control in his report titled "International Progress in Plastic Pollution Governance and China's Actions." The report elaborated on the development process, policy framework, governance achievements, and China's active participation in global plastic pollution governance.

Jacqueline Vaessen, Chair Top Sector ChemistryNL shared the progress of sustainability development in the Netherlands. According to her, projects in the fields of battery tech, biofuels, biofeedstock value chians, circular plastics, CCU, etc. are underway. The Netherlands adopts the strategy of national public-private consortia and international bilateral & trilateral partners to strengthen its global impact.  She believes that transparency in costs, EPR, standardized plastics and additives, circular design and innovations in recycling  are the keys to circular plastics economy.

Dang Nguyet Anh, Manager of Viet Nam National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP), UNDP Viet Nam, shared Vietnam's practices in plastic recycling and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), covering packaging and products across various sectors such as packaging, batteries, tires, electronics, and vehicles.

Molly Jia, Plastic Initiative Project Manager at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (UK) Beijing Representative Office, introduced the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment and the specific 2025 targets set by companies for plastic packaging. These targets include reducing virgin plastic use, increasing the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials, and achieving 100% reusability, among others.

Tuti Buntaran, Ambassador of WPO, mentioned that 10-15% of the plastic waste generated by Indonesia was recycled each year. There are 244 recycling companies in the country, with an annual production of about 2.5 million tons of recycled plastic. Regarding the usage of recycled plastics, PE accounts for the largest share (38%), followed by PP (34%) and PET (20%). Tuti Buntaran also pointed out that government data indicates that circular economy would bring significant economic potential, creating 120,000 formal jobs.

Automotive and aerospace: High-value recycling and collaboration


Jingyue Hou, Project Director of the Environment & Circular Economy at GIZ East Asia, presented research on the application of recycled plastics in the automotive sector. He noted that recycled plastics are primarily used in automotive interior and exterior components, with only a small portion originating from end-of-life vehicles. When allocating dismantling costs across different dismantled materials, the plastic components from end-of-life vehicles face economic challenges. Due to their low weight, complex dismantling process, and high technical requirements, the revenue from recycling these plastics is insufficient to cover the comprehensive dismantling costs.

Shaohua Yu, ESG Director of Geely Auto Group, stated that advancing the circular economy is now part of Geely’s ESG strategy. Guided by the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework, Geely is researching recycled material applications to standardize end-of-life vehicle recycling and optimize resource efficiency.

Dr. Ben Wang, GM of HRC Carbon Neutrality at HRC Group shared the caompany's patented microwave pyrolysis technology that produces diverse products including rCF intermediates and thermoplastic panels, with collaborative projects like Aircraft Dismantling Site In Airbus (ALSC). HRC continues to break through technical barriers to lead sustainable industry development.

Appliances and electronics: Green supply chains and EPR


Miaoxue Xie, project engineer of Electrical Appliance Recycling Technology Center of CHEARI, shared the annual report on the implementation of EPR for E&E products in 2024. He pointed out that that the report shows that there is great room for enterprises to improve their EPR performance, and the continuous use of recycled materials have promoted the fulfillment of EPR.

Packaging and footwear: Green design and product premium


Oh SUN JIN, Senior Managing Director of Korea Packaging Association, pointed out that South Korea's stringent environmental regulations promote resource circularity, clean air and green vehicles, creating competitive opportunities. Eco-friendly operations earn consumer trust, with innovative products becoming key to CSR fulfillment. As market and policy align, companies should focus on sustainable development to follow trends and meet demands.

Zhongwei Chen, Deputy Director of Sustainable Development at ANTA Sports Products Limited, shared the company’s global innovations in sustainable products. ANTA has conducted full life-cycle carbon footprint assessments for 34 products, certified 26 carbon-neutral products, achieved 36% sustainable packaging in total materials, and ensured 30% of its total orders comprise sustainable footwear, apparel, and accessories.

Jiawei Ma, Project Manager of Meituan Blue Mountain Project detailed how the program enhances the recycling and high-value utilization of discarded food containers through waste classification systems and eco-tech innovations. Collaborating with industry partners, it also developed a digital map for container recycling to improve industry informatization and visualization, boosting recycling efficiency.

These initiatives include establishing a closed-loop recycling system for flexible packaging, promoting sustainable packaging concepts, and implementing dedicated flexible packaging recovery programs—all aimed at achieving circular packaging solutions and reducing virgin plastic consumption.

Dr. Winnie Xiong, Founder & CTO of Shanghai Re-mall Environmental Protection New Material Co.,Ltd., Ph.D. in Polymer (CAS) from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Senior Chemical Engineer, delivered a report entitled " Collaborative Transformation: Building a New Sustainable Ecology for Plastic Recycling Together." The report analyzed the current state and challenges of the plastic recycling sector. It outlined a three-pronged approach to build a sustainable recycling ecosystem: establishing new conceptual frameworks for plastic circularity, innovatively optimizing green supply chains, and linking value chains to propel industry-wide ecological transformation. Crucially, the report highlighted that collaborative transformation is essential for developing this sustainable new ecosystem.

Global insights: Progress in plastic recycling and China's actions


Guanglong Wu, Senior Specialist and Section Chief at the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, provided a detailed overview of China's efforts in plastic pollution control in his report titled "International Progress in Plastic Pollution Governance and China's Actions." The report elaborated on the development process, policy framework, governance achievements, and China's active participation in global plastic pollution governance.

Jacqueline Vaessen, Chair Top Sector ChemistryNL shared the progress of sustainability development in the Netherlands. According to her, projects in the fields of battery tech, biofuels, biofeedstock value chians, circular plastics, CCU, etc. are underway. The Netherlands adopts the strategy of national public-private consortia and international bilateral & trilateral partners to strengthen its global impact.  She believes that transparency in costs, EPR, standardized plastics and additives, circular design and innovations in recycling  are the keys to circular plastics economy.

Molly Jia, Plastic Initiative Project Manager at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (UK) Beijing Representative Office, introduced the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment and the specific 2025 targets set by companies for plastic packaging. These targets include reducing virgin plastic use, increasing the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials, and achieving 100% reusability, among others.

Tuti Buntaran, Ambassador of WPO, mentioned that 10-15% of the plastic waste generated by Indonesia was recycled each year. There are 244 recycling companies in the country, with an annual production of about 2.5 million tons of recycled plastic. Regarding the usage of recycled plastics, PE accounts for the largest share (38%), followed by PP (34%) and PET (20%). Tuti Buntaran also pointed out that government data indicates that circular economy would bring significant economic potential, creating 120,000 formal jobs.

Automotive and aerospace: High-value recycling and collaboration


Jingyue Hou, Project Director of the Environment & Circular Economy at GIZ East Asia, presented research on the application of recycled plastics in the automotive sector. He noted that recycled plastics are primarily used in automotive interior and exterior components, with only a small portion originating from end-of-life vehicles. When allocating dismantling costs across different dismantled materials, the plastic components from end-of-life vehicles face economic challenges. Due to their low weight, complex dismantling process, and high technical requirements, the revenue from recycling these plastics is insufficient to cover the comprehensive dismantling costs.

Shaohua Yu, ESG Director of Geely Auto Group, stated that advancing the circular economy is now part of Geely’s ESG strategy. Guided by the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework, Geely is researching recycled material applications to standardize end-of-life vehicle recycling and optimize resource efficiency.

Appliances and electronics: Green supply chains and EPR


Miaoxue Xie, project engineer of Electrical Appliance Recycling Technology Center of CHEARI, shared the annual report on the implementation of EPR for E&E products in 2024. He pointed out that that the report shows that there is great room for enterprises to improve their EPR performance, and the continuous use of recycled materials have promoted the fulfillment of EPR.

Packaging and footwear: Green design and product premium


Oh SUN JIN, Senior Managing Director of Korea Packaging Association, pointed out that South Korea's stringent environmental regulations promote resource circularity, clean air and green vehicles, creating competitive opportunities. Eco-friendly operations earn consumer trust, with innovative products becoming key to CSR fulfillment. As market and policy align, companies should focus on sustainable development to follow trends and meet demands.
