The world’s largest plastics show – K fair – is approaching. To make your visit to K easier, we have gathered some tips that may be useful for your visit to K and Germany.

Transportation

**Important: Remember to get your bus/train ticket

The K fair admission ticket does not include free travel to and from the event by public transport. You will need a ticket for travel by public transport to events at the Düsseldorf venue.

The DüsseldorfCard is the cheapest and simplest way of getting to know the city. It grants you not only unlimited use of trams and buses within the city area, but also free or reduced-price entry to museums, various attractions and leisure facilities.

From Düsseldorf Airport to exhibition center

Düsseldorf Airport is the third largest airport in Germany. It is approximately 7 km north of downtown Düsseldorf and 3 km away from the Düsseldorf Exhibition Center. It only takes a few minutes to get to the exhibition center, either by bus (No. 896) or by taxi.

Travel to the exhibition center

To get to the exhibition centre, take tram no. U78 MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA/Messe Nord or U79 Messe Ost (Exit at MesseOst/Stockumer Kirchstr.) or bus no. 722 (Exit at Messe Ost or Messe Süd/CCD).

The U78 line stops at the East and North Entrances while the U79 only stops at the East Entrance. Visitors who wish to go to the North Entrance or Esprit Arena will need to switch to the U78 from here.

At the Messe Ost stop, visitors can switch to the No. 722 bus, which stops directly in front of the administration buildings as well as at the South Entrance. There is an additional shuttle bus service during the K Show. The No. 896 makes regular trips to Düsseldorf Airport.

General tips for Germany trips

Making phone calls

To make an inter-state phone call from Germany, press “0” first, and then press the area code and finally the phone number. The area code of Düsseldorf is 211.

Mobile phone numbers in Germany come with 10-11 digits. It is necessary to press “0” and then the area code first if you are calling a mobile phone number. For example, in Düsseldorf, press 0-211-12345678.

Voltage

In Germany, the most common plug types are Type C and Type F – with two round pins. The standard voltage in Germany is 230V with a frequency of 50Hz. An adapter is needed for foreign travelers.

Weather

Düsseldorf’s temperature in October is about 15°C in daytime and 8°C at night. We advise you to bring an umbrella in case of a touch of rain.

Opening hours of shops

Most shops in Germany open from Monday to Saturday until 8:00pm, some local stores may close earlier on Saturday. Except for stores in major train stations, businesses are closed on Sunday and public holidays.

Tipping

Service and VAT are included in the menu price in restaurants, bars, etc. all over Germany. It is typical to “round up” the amount to some more-or-less round figure. A rule of thumb is to add 5-10% for tips, generally ending with a full Euro amount.
