BYK to showcase UV stabilizer and PFAS-free process additives at K 2025

BYK Additives will present its innovative additive solutions, including UV stabilizers and PFAS-free process additives, at K 2025.

UV stabilizer for polyamides and polyolefin composites

On account of their mechanical strength, temperature resistance and versatility, polyamides are indispensable in a great many sectors – from the automotive industry, construction materials, and consumer and leisure products all the way to fibers and textiles.

However, polyamide-based components suffer a deterioration of their properties and surface quality when subjected to longer-lasting exposure to light. UV radiation can also lead to discoloration, loss of gloss, and material degradation.

BYK introduces new additive – BYK-MAX LS 4128 – to address long-term UV stabilization of polyamides and polyolefin composites. It was specifically developed to preserve the properties and surface quality of plastics in the long term when exposed to light.

The synergistic additive of highly concentrated stabilizers effectively hinders light-induced degradation processes in the polyamide. The additive acts as a radical catcher and peroxide decomposer, protecting both the visual and the mechanical properties of the materials.

This new product is a granulated, organic UV stabilization system. It is also with high level of active ingredients that minimizes the need for carrier resins, thereby reducing the overall costs.

Thanks to BYK’s proprietary technology, BYK-MAX LS 4128 is a flowable product that is easy to handle.

PFAS-free process additives

The new polymer processing aid (PPA) BYK-MAX P 4110 is PFAS-free. It also facilitates faster production speed, prevents melt fracture, and reduces build-up on dies, resulting in reduced cleaning efforts and, consequently, shorter downtimes.

The additive was developed for use in polyolefins with the aim of optimizing the production of films and fibers, as well as other extrusion applications.

The new solution can be used as a drop-in solution as customers can replace processing aids containing fluorine (PPA) in their formulations without having to do without the accustomed advantages. Adapting the systems to this more environmentally friendly, PFAS-free process additive is technically straightforward, and no sub-stantial process adjustment is required.
