Recently, Hunan Vary Tech Co., Ltd. handed over a customized end-of-life refrigerator recycling and dismantling line to Greenscape Eco Management Pvt. Ltd. (GMP), an Indian e-waste recycling giant. The line is expected to arrive at New Delhi, India, by the end of November.

The customized recycling and dismantling line can process 100-120 refrigerator per hour and 260,000-310,000 refrigerator per year. This capacity enhances GMP’s home appliance dismantling capacity for the increasing demand on home appliance waste processing in India.

Chinese technology supports recycling and dismantling e-waste in India

Vary Tech is a leading e-waste recycling system provider in China. Its customers include renowned brands such as Haier and TCL. With 20 years of experience in handling e-waste, the company first developed an integrated process combining double shaft shredder and vertical shredder, which was certified by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC. This technology has gone through seven generations of upgrading. Its single-line capacity supports processing 40-200 machines.

In terms of application, Vary Tech has provided more than 100 e-waste recycling and dismantling line to global customers in Spain, Turkey, Malaysia, India, Republic of Mauritius, Republic of Rwanda and Brazil.

GMP, the leading company in e-waste management and IT asset disposition in India, was established at 2007. Through a full chain of service – from data security management, dismantling, reuse to re-sale, the company provides regulatory compliance, environmentally friendly, and economically beneficial solutions to telecommunication, financial and insurance companies.

Currently, GMP has the annual capacity of handling 40,000 tons of e-waste. It plans to expand its capacity to 180,000 tons and establish long-term collaboration with international brands, including LG, Panasonic, Whirlpool and Tata Steel.

Urgent need for automatic, systematic recycling line in India

Under government regulations and positive market response, Indian e-waste recycling industry is now developing towards a more systematic operation.

In 2019, India’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for e-waste management was mandated. Following this, India introduced the Battery Waste Management Rules in 2022, which mandate an EPR for battery manufacturers and importers. These regulations, as well as financial subsidies and tax benefits from Indian states and union territories, regulate and promote the development of e-waste recycling system.

The Indian government invests an estimated of US$500-700 million per year to support regulatory-compliant recycling companies, transforming the recycling market from small-scale, individual operation to more systematic recycling platform.

At the present, Indian e-waste management market has reached US$1.56 billion. It is expected to rise continuously with a compound annual growth rate of 10%, reaching US$3.35 billion at 2031. Among them, end-of-life home appliances will be the main source of e-waste, which consists of 30-40%, becoming the market segment that demand urgent response.

However, small-scale, informal recyclers remain to contribute to 30-40% of recycling amount in India. The problem: technological setback and serious pollution problem.

In 2025, the amount of e-waste produced in India is expected to reach 7 million tons. The country will have significantly higher demand for automated, systematic, innovative dismantling line for e-waste. Therefore, companies who can provide comprehensive solution that features high efficiency, high environmental standard and high recycling rate will be long-term partners in the upgrading of e-waste recycling market in India.
