Italian firm installs FIMIC’s filtration system to improve recycling efficiency

Source:Adsale Plastics Network Date :2020-01-03 Editor :(SC)

Italian filtration systems provider FIMIC has helped ItalFire to improve recycling efficiency and cut costs in Manduria, southern Italy.

Specialized in the production and maintenance of fire protection systems, family-owned ItalFire has installed a recycling line for post-industrial and commercial LDPE.

During recycling, however, high contamination levels of 4-5% were occurred. The impurity levels entering the extrusion process can vary considerably. The mesh screen originally installed by ItalFire could not handle such levels of contamination when in full production without incurring issues and, above all, could not contain spare part costs.

To tackle the issue, ItalFire installed a new RAS 700 melt filter with a filtering surface of almost 4,000 cm² and a single laser screen.

The filter was adapted prior to shipping, so that the flanges and height fitted the customer’s extrusion line.

Thanks to the FIMIC laser technology, ItalFire can currently produce 1,500 kg/h of quality LDPE film at 150 microns at its disposal.

FIMIC said the discharge waste, containing a minimum percentage of plastic and contamination, is reprocessed with a filtration of 400 microns to be used in molding applications.
