With over 1,000 neck-capsule designs made for its customers all over the world, the SACMI Laboratory has more than twenty years of experience in the market, driving innovation from all points of view (design, lightweight, new standards, etc.).
The first result brought to the market is SACMI's ability to accelerate the 3Rs approach (re-duce, re-use, re-cycle), and especially the reduction of the consumption of virgin resins which, at SACMI, is expressed in the development of integrated and performing lightweight solutions.
But that’s not all. Thanks to complete services in product development and the ability to explore the new frontiers of research, the laboratory stands as a reference for sustainable innovation in this sector, from the idea of product to the best technologies to achieve it.
Light weighting performances (and competitiveness)
The SACMI Rigid Packaging Laboratory has been at the forefront for many years in the development of high-performance and lightweight solutions, to optimize the consumption of energy and raw materials in the process and offering customers and consumers the best quality/consumption experience.
To give you an idea, the average capsule + preform body weight has been reduced in the last 15 years by more than 50% and further steps forward are possible thanks to new ready-to-market solutions such as 26 mm capsules for water and CSD.
The strength of the Lab is the ability to support the customer at every stage, to evaluate in advance the performance of the neck-cap and avoid the typical problems (such as stress cracking) that arise by reducing the thickness and, therefore, the weight of the capsule when producing lightweight.

Among the new services offered by the Laboratory, in synergy between SACMI's Rigid Packaging and Beverage businesses, advanced consultancy which, in addition to the technical development of the capsule and preform, includes real design and product development services, to transform your product idea into a complete, high-level technological proposal ready for the market.

Protagonist, since the beginning of the nineties, in the development of compression technology that has established itself as a global technological standard, the SACMI Research Centre has long started a new line of research on biocompatible materials, such as paper-based polymers (cellulose fibers) for the realization of the cap and / or the use of alternative materials instead of traditional resins for the realization of containers.
These advanced points of research have resulted in new products recently presented to the market at leading trade fairs, giving substance and substance to the concept of "circular economy" applied to the production of capsules and containers for food grade use.
