(K-interview) Hoffmann Mineral offers new solutions for higher sustainability and energy-saving

At K 2022, Hoffmann Mineral, the leading German manufacturer of natural mineral fillers, introduced its new innovative functional filler products to Adsale Plastics Network (AdsaleCPRJ.com).

 

Siegfried Heckl, Key Account Manager at Hoffmann Mineral GmbH, noted that the topics that most of the visitors were interested in include energy saving, lightweight products and sustainability.

 

He remarked that under the energy crisis, energy saving will be an important concern for the industry in the coming year.

 

Siegfried Heckl went on to underline that Hoffmann Mineral offers new relevant products for such concern. Aktifit AM, for example, is an activated Silfit Z 91. Silfit Z 91 is a calcined product based on Sillitin, the standard natural and untreated fillers of the company.

 

Aktifit AM is produced by modifying the surface with special functional groups. The by-products split off during the treatment reaction are largely removed during the production process which firmly attaches the functional groups to the filler surface.

 

Further, the company has recently had LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) prepared for the Aktifit AM by TÜV Rheinland in accordance with ISO standards. It provides a detailed and granular overview of each phase of the life cycle in terms of energy use and emissions, and it also shows how much energy is consumed in total for individual production steps and packaging.

 

Siegfried Heckl also introduced Hoffmann Mineral’s GLOXIL for thermoplastic compounds. The company has been working in cooperation with 3M for years to develop products based on hollow glass microspheres. The product is based on the iM16k, modified with an amino function.

 

The main field of application for the new GLOXIL iM16k A is the production of thermoplastics with demands for low density and low weight of the finished product. The functionalization allows a better integration of the lightweight filler, leading to an improvement in the strength of the finished product.
