Talk with Market Leaders II: Optimism for the plastics industry in 2022

Source:Adsale Plastics Network Date:2022-02-08

In this episode of video series “Talk with Market Leaders II - Shape a Smart & Carbon Neutral Future”, the senior management from two leading companies shared on the latest market outlook and the technology trends.

In the interview, Rob Buntinx, President Asia Pacific, INEOS Styrolution, pointed out that the household sector, especially in Asia and China, performed extremely well in last year. He is optimistic that the sector will continue to grow in 2022.

Besides, he also remarked that many brand owners are willing to specify INEOS Styrolution’s high-quality mechanically recycled ABS into their typical applications. To advance circular economy, the company is discussing with some brand owners in China to set up closed-loop systems.

Meanwhile, Say-Eng Lee, Vice President and General Manager of Color & Additives Asia, Avient, emphasized that the market demand will continue to be strong across different end markets in 2022. As the world now seeks the next generation of sustainable solutions, the company expects its sustainable solutions to grow 8-12% per annum.

When asked about the progress of circular economy for plastics, Walter Ripple, Vice President, Sustainability, Avient, commented “even though we do have a long way to go, we really are making sustainable progress”.

For many brand owners are striving to increase recyclability or the recycled content in their products, Walter Ripple said that adding more recycled content presents significant challenges like color, odor, processability and various performance characteristics. Therefore, innovative additive and masterbatch solutions have been developed.

CHINAPLAS joins hands with China Plastic & Rubber Journal to launch the video series to share market leaders’ views and observations on the latest market trends, technological breakthroughs and innovative applications.
