Happy 5th Anniversary, YuMi!

ABB introduced the truly small, collaborative robot YuMi in 2015. It was a game-changer designed for material handling, assembly and inspection, for example in small parts assembly, where people and robots work side-by-side on the same tasks.

 

It is noteworthy that safety is built into the functionality of YuMi itself. The robot removes the barriers to collaboration by making fencing and cages a thing of the past.

 

The growing family of YuMi robots opens up a world of flexible possibilities, for example a single-arm and a dual-arm YuMi could be combined to add a parts feed or inspection station to an assembly cell. Users can also have three or five YuMi arms in an application to improve the cycle time.

 

Collaborative robots are favored by many small and medium-sized enterprises due to their high return on investment and low overall cost. According to QYResearch, with the increasing demand for safety and continuous operation in the automation industry, it is estimated that the global market for collaborative robots will reach US$ 9.7678 billion by the end of 2025, with a CGAR of 50.4%.
