Industrial packaging supplier Mauser acquires Varicon Solutions

Feb 20, 2012
Mauser Group, a worldwide company in industrial packaging, announces the acquisition of Varicon Solutions in North America. Mauser will take over the plastic packaging part, which includes HDPE tight head and open head drums made out of virgin as well as of PCR resin (Post Consumer Resin), while National Container Group (NCG), a Mauser Group subsidiary, will assume the reconditioning activities of Varicon as part of an asset deal.

Varicon is a manufacturer of containers made out of PCR resin, and as a service provider of plastic drums and IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers). The company operates two locations, one in Greenville, South Carolina, and another one in Cleveland, Ohio. Following the acquisition, the production volumes of Varicon will be transferred to existing Mauser/NCG facilities.

Mauser says that the acquisition of Varicon allows the group to strengthen its market leadership in North America and further enhance its "life cycle management strategy for packaging". "This acquisition is another milestone supporting our worldwide growth strategy and enables us to meet the increasing requirements for plastic packaging made out of PCR resin including all related services in the Southeastern US," says Jeff Simmonds, SBU Manager North America, Mauser Group.

Mauser Group CEO Hans-Peter Schaefer add, "In line with the global sustainability approach of MAUSER NCG, customers benefit from combining economy with ecology, which gets more and more important in today's businesses."
